August 29, 2010 My boyfriend and I finally took the plunge and got chickens! We live in Oregon with our 3 cats, 5 housemates, 3 ferrets, and soon to be 6 chickens. After some stubborn persistence from myself, I finally convinced my boyfriend that we would absolutely love to add chickens to our...

    Coop Construction 2

Coop Construction We thought about getting an old 4H project or converting a rabbit hutch or something into a chicken coop, but, in the end, we knew that we wouldn't be satisfied if we didn't make it ourselves! So, in anticipation of our future chickens, we started designing the coop in...

    Bantam Rooster- Belgian d'Anver

Prefer to place him locally. Can deliver within the Portland Metro area. Born September 20. Raised in our home and backyard. Fairly friendly. We actually thought about keeping this little guy, but we aren't zoned for roosters and we don't have the space. So, now that they're older, it's time...

    Naked Neck/Turken Thread

How many eggs a week do NN usually lay? Everything I've heard says something different Does it vary widely on breeder or is there a standard 1-2 or 4-5 a week they usually lay?

Can starting to lay make a hen lose weight?

I have a 28 week old Speckled Sussex who has been losing weight. I don't know exactly how much she weighs now, but three weeks ago she hurt one of her toes and couldn't walk very well. So, we took her to the vet and they said that she looked fine. Her weight and stool sample were normal. They...

    Post your FIRST EGG pics!

Very first egg yesterday! At last! They're almost 28 weeks old! It's either my Wyandotte or my Sussex's. I'm not sure. All I know is that they're both supposed to be brown! It's a little bit smaller than my store-bought eggs, but they're huge. So, it's about a medium-sized egg.

Belgian D'Anver Roosters- 18 weeks old

Had to buy the Belgiands straight run, so I ended up with two roosters. We raised them in the house and handled them a lot, so they're not as aggressive as some other roosters I've met. $15 each or $25 for the pair. The first has the rose comb, the second has a single. We actually really...

Missing Golden Laced Polish- Found Her!

She showed up this morning. A little frazzled, missing a few tail feathers, but doing fine!

Missing Golden Laced Polish- Found Her!

I wasn't quite sure where to post this, but if I found a chicken, one of the places I might look for someone missing a chicken would be here! One of my chickens disappeared last night. She was probably taken by a hawk, but, just in case someone finds her, I'm looking for her! Her name is...

    Belgian D'Anver Rooster. 17 weeks.

Nice rooster. Has the rose comb. Prefer to place him locally, but, we can ship him if you're interested. If you're in the Portland area, we can deliver him for $20 instead of the $55 it would cost to ship him.

Belgian D'Anver Rooster- 13 weeks old- Oregon

Friendly rooster. A little flighty, but not aggressive. Good with other animals. I don't breed or show, so I don't know anything about "quality" roosters, but he's a lot more attractive than our other Belgian roo. Nice coloring and he actually has the rose comb! I've never shipped a chicken...
