These are Atwoods chicks from a mixed pullets bin. They are five to six weeks old on this picture. I wonder if this is an Easter Egger? I split a six-pack with a friend.
Someone on Pinterest said that she puts heavily salted water in used water bottles, caps them tightly, and floats them in her chicken waterer in the winter. She said that her water has never frozen since she did it. I am going to try it this winter, seems good for people who don't get electric...
I am looking to re-home three guinea hens, one year old, they are a pearl grey and two pieds. I have too many males and can't stand the fighting any more. Royal Arkansas.
I currently have seven guineas. Four males and three females. So lots of fighting, and I thought if they have to forage more, maybe they won't have as much time for fighting. :/ and hole digging.
If you go out of town, do you leave a feeder out for them? I will have to do the same thing this fall, leaving them in the trees (which is what they want anyway) but if I leave a feeder out for them, I will attract raccoons and possums I fear.
What I mean by pigs, is that eating from the feeder is the easy and lazy way of eating. We live on four acres of mulberry and cherry and other fruit trees, clover abounds, etc. And so I think they fill up on the feed I'm buying and then go off and dig holes all over the yard :/ instead of...
I feed my guineas chicken feed and give them scratch for treats. But they are real pigs about eating all that expensive food, and I see all kinds of berries and stuff laying around the yard that I wish they would eat (because it's free and why not?) instead. I know I should feed them during the...
I'm not sure about when you should start, but if they are given any grains, they should have access to grit for digestion. I think you could probably start giving them millet or other grains by six weeks old, bc if they were raised by a hen, they would be eating it with her. But I wish some...
If your outside coop is snake proof, I would move them as the temps seem pretty good for that. But we have big blacksnakes in my area and my coops are not snake proof. :( We have lost them as large as six week to a big blacksnake.
