Wow, that is a fascinating thread and you are on a fascinating journey! Thank you for sharing that with me! (Incidentally, I have had some experiences with my flock which support some of your theories, especially with chickens naturally developing clans based on their physical appearances, as...
Oh wow, that wrinkled egg is so weird! I love it!
I have a hen who occasionally lays huge pink speckled eggs too!
I love seeing all the variation in colors and especially all the different types of speckles.
Haha no, this was the Old Boys Club but sadly the cute little MF D'uccle is the only one of these boys remaining in my flock (the boys in the back and one other not pictured have given their lives to feed my family now).
At present, I have a flock of 21 - 3 cockerels and 19 pullets. Only two of...
Oh hahaha no I didn't mean painting the ramp that's just pooped on all day, haha....but I did paint the area around the door. I like keeping my coop and run looking rustic chic. We spend a lot of time in there with the chickens so why not make it look nice for all of us!
Thanks for the info! We're in Northern California so moisture is pretty much unheard of around here unfortunately.
The ramp has been working really well for all of us - and it's a favourite place for my chickies to hang out, like it's their front porch in the 'hood.
Oh wow, her chickens get a ladder made of felled trees in each run.
*actual photo Martha shared on her site of her chickens' run.
Meanwhile, in MY coop.....
:D
But for real.....I Googled her coop and that time she did seriously hardened her soul.....her coop and run LOOK like a prison yard!! Her "tour" of it reads like a fundraising round slide-deck for a prison's stakeholder meeting!!! http://www.themarthablog.com/2017/01/visiting-my-chickens.html
Like I said, Martha's got nothing on me....that's why she took the rap for us both. ;)
I've said too much already.
(Looks over her shoulder for the giant Ideal Eggman)
Haha they look great! What kind of elastics did you use? I tried to do that with my polish boy because one of the older hens pecks his Crest at night but every elastic I've tried with him he manages to rip right out...I even tried using sports tape and he yanked it off but it was still dangling...
Hehehe....I'm reading your post and in my head in seeing your profile picture saying it. I can picture your little lady having a hoot of a time with my girls haha she looks like a funny one!
I made them out of those empty plastic Easter Eggs...I glued them closed and used paper towel as paper mache....then painted them blue and added glitter and pearlescent glaze....so they're pretty light weight. They were hot glue gunned onto the frame, but it looks like she's been pecking at the...
Funny update (I have another post about it so I won't go into too much detail) but I heard her singing again today so I rushed outside and found one of the big sparkly blue decoupage eggs from a chandelier decoration i made for the coop, nestled up in the same nesting box Celine was in...
