    Maisie won't eat!

Rebrascora, Thanks for your response to my Maisie issue! She is much much better! I still don't know what exactly happened to her since I wasn't there to witness. She was my friend's hen and is now mine in a smaller flock. My friend felt she would be better with my girls where I could watch her...

    Maisie won't eat!

I have a 2yr old hen, Maisie, who 3 weeks ago had an encounter with a spooked horse who stepped on her foot (we think). 2 weeks after she was limping and the toes had gone black and were cold. After soaking her in epsom salt baths and giving her arnica and mercurous solubilis pellets (for...

    my girls were attacked...

So sorry to hear about your girl getting attacked! I don't know about coconut oil sprayed directly into the wound as I'm just learning about the healing powers of the coconut. If there is flap-age as in skin/fat/etc. it sounds as if she may need stitches. If you have a vet she could see that's...

No eggs....Are my hens too old?

My girls were attacked by dogs in late October and still show signs of PTSD. 4 out of 6 have laid just briefly before Christmas then nothing since. I'm hoping spring will help them feel more like laying.

No eggs....Are my hens too old?

My girls are also on a huge break. I think it may have to do with the amount of daylight. Did you do anything different before your girls started laying again? I have 2 that are laying but my other 4...notta which is unusual for them.

Need suggestions on keeping out neighbor dogs...

I have a typical cedar privacy fence that I need to dog proof. Next door is a houdini dog who killed 2 of my girls a month ago. Now that she knows what's back there I'm afraid she will be back for more. She can dig under but also jump over as well. For the bottom to deter digging I'm trenching...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

Your birds are beautiful. I'm thinking of getting some. I have Marens, a Brabanter, and a Buff Orpington. What is the temperament of this breed?

OMG!!! That is amazing indeed! I will get some for sure. Hopefully it will keep 2 of my girls from having to get stitched up! I'm not new to nursing from an attack but am always looking for better ways to heal and make my girls more comfy during their rehab. Thanks so much!

    My girls were attacked...

Thanks for your reply! Yes I'm using saline to flush their wound before adding honey. The warm bathes are very soothing to them then they sit under the heater and rest. I've been through this before unfortunately and learned a great deal then. They are on antibiotics...2 by injection. They...
