    Chickiemom1012s Chicken Coop

My Chicken Coop I decided I wanted to get chickens this spring, my husband and I had talked about getting a few hens at our other home but we were worried about our neighbors. At our new house our lot is bigger and we have a wooded area on one side.....perfect for a chicken coop for a few birds...

Showgirl, 20 weeks, with large squishy crop..

You can also use bird formula to supplement for/with food. I had a Silkie with chronic crop issues last year and per my vet I used bird fomula(from the pet store). Mix it with a little yogurt and water real thin and offer that. It's loaded with all the good stuff, they use it to hand feed baby...

Birds losing feathers, not a molt. Why?

My friend has a flock of about 20 birds. They are all losing their feathers on their necks at the tops of their wings and around their vent area. The birds are all alert and happy no other signs of illness. This not due to molting. Any clue why that would happen and any sort of treatment...

Building our own coop --help wanted

I am currently converting a 8x8 shed into a coop. You may want to try Craigslist for a used shed (got mine for $300) then tweak it the way you want. Also a shed kit from any of the home improvement stores would work also, or a book on building sheds, then it's just a matter of adding your run...

    Paint question

I am in the process of converting a 8x8 garden shed into a coop. My frist coop was untreated plywood with a linoleum floor. On this second coop I primed the floor and then used Porch and Floor paint on the floor, Semi-gloss paint on all the walls and the ceiling. Over time you will have...

    Am I Frizzled???

That looks frizzled to me.... I have several frizzle crosses, and just got some new chicks this spring a few of which were sizzles (silkie frizzle cross). All of my chick's wings had the same look. If it is a frizzle the little bugger will be adorable.

Bloody Egg.... do I need be worried?

Thanks so much, now I don't have to compulsively check them every 20 min to make sure they are OK. We have had some casualities since April when we first got them. The kids are a little paraniod, and myself too!!!!

Bloody Egg.... do I need be worried?

My son always goes out and get the eggs each day.... so today we got 3 instead of 2 eggs... girls are just starting to lay. So when he comes in with it it's got blood all over it. Not tons but enought to worry me. So I checked the girls they were free ranging and none of them had any blood on...

Suggestions for a coop built on an Incline....

The incline is not so steep that severe errosion is a problem, My run would have to be slanted but it should be OK without washing out. I was hoping to build a coop I could walk into, or at the ver least be able to reach far enough into to clean out easily, that's why I was going to go shallow...

Suggestions for a coop built on an Incline....

Hi there- I currently have a playhouse coop I built this spring. But..... cinsidering my obsession with my girls I have decided to expand this spring. We have a steep incline behind our garage which is set up higher than our house (it's detached. So we have this hill we don't know what to do...

    I'm afraid she won't make it :(

I feel so bad for you, I am so attached to my girls 9 in total (just got two more today) and I feel your pain. I rescued a broody silkie from the lady I got my first batch of chicks from when I traded out my roosters from the bunch. I have lost two of them to a weird viral thing that affects...

Heating the coop in severe cold weather climates?

From most of the posts I have read, the hens really need the additional daylight to continue to lay regularily. I added LED christmas lights to my coop this week. Not sure if it will work but it is safer to me than a light bulb. I also bought a cheap timer and have them going on at 4:15 and...

Heating the hen house in the winter

I am not sure what your budget is but I purchased an infared heater from www.sweeterheater.com I am in Green Bay, WI and it get pretty cold here. I also bought a thermostatic outlet to plug the heater into so it maintains 45 degrees. They have several sizes and can be side mounted or hung from...
