They are about 6 months old, and we feed them layer feed from Bomgaars. One of them FINALLY laid today!! I am so happy!! It's kind of funny because it was right after I posted about them not laying!
Sorry I haven't posted in a while!! So, my chickens have NOT laid eggs yet!! I know that they might not be laying because it is winter-time, or they need more sunlight, but it's kind of disappointing! :(
I knew about the waddles and comb, but I kind of forgot about the pelvic and vent check.. my chickens havent quite started laying yet so im kind of new at this! Sorry!
It also may be that only a few of the chickens that are molting now were the ones laying, and since chickens don't lay while they are molting, it is possible. Especially since all of your chickens are the same breed, it can be very hard to figure out which ones were laying the eggs.
Most likely, it is because they were laying early. I would wait 2-4 weeks to when they should be laying, and they will probably lay again. Are the eggs small? Are you sure that your chickens are Rhode Island Reds? They may be some other breed, but the breeder or store may have labeled them wrong.
I am worried that she may be injured or too weak if you assist her. I would wait a couple of days, because she may be a little smaller than all the other ones, so maybe she needs a little more time to grow. :)
Ok, I should have updated you guys, but thank you for all of the feedback! I decided to buy a Starlight Green Egger, and she is really sweet. Her name is Peep, and seems really calm and such. Maybe my next flock will be made up of some Australorps once all of my chickens have passed. Once again...
