    Infected/Broken Toe: What to do?

Thank you, Kiki. We have a coyote problem at the moment. Hungry momma that had pups recently, so she's probably trying to feed them.

    Hen Walks Like A Penguin

Alright, thank you. I guess I'll continue to keep an eye on her, her eating habits, etc. The poor thing just seemed so uncomfortable the other day. She's a little better now. She keeps her tail down pretty much all of the time, and stands like a penguin does, but when she walks, she looks okay.

    Hen Walks Like A Penguin

The thing is, she hasn't laid any eggs in over two years, and she's been acting weird for way less time than that.

    Hen Walks Like A Penguin

I would be very uncomfortable dissecting her, the reason why I didn't go for veterinarian as my career, so I'm not sure what I could do. Can they be egg bound without any swelling? I think I would notice if she had a build up between her legs. I've checked it every so often when I pick her up...

    Infected/Broken Toe: What to do?

After a bit more work, her toe healed up fine and I trimmed her nails, but what do you know, the day she seemed to be in perfect shape, she was picked off by a coyote. :barnie

    Hen Walks Like A Penguin

I have a hen, a black australorp, around five years old, who walks like a penguin. I've picked her up and felt around, but I can't find anything that could indicate a problem, and she's never gotten sick before. There isn't any enlargement in her abdomen, it's a healthy size, not hot to the...

    Infected/Broken Toe: What to do?

Update: Hen's toe is almost gone, her scale mites are healing up, and she's overall much happier. She now sticks with her box buddy I gave her since I didn't want her to get lonely (plus it drives them to eat if they have competition) and she isn't limping anymore.

    Swollen Abdomen

I'll have to feel it again, but I don't think it felt quite like liquid. I think my longest living hen has been about six years old (from my very first batch) and I eventually had to euthanize her (worst. experience. of. my. life. I used carbon dioxide to do it, and it scared me to death, no pun...

    Swollen Abdomen

Gosh. So I'll most likely lose her? That's depressing. She's such a sweetie, and I remember the day she hatched. As to the issue pertaining the needle, yeesh. Whole reason I wasn't sure about my choice to be a vet (can't do things like that, it bugs me out). So there's pretty much nothing I can...

    Swollen Abdomen

The thing is, she hasn't laid an egg in awhile, and this is a new problem, it's not a big difference, it's just big enough for me to notice. It's just slightly distended and bigger than the others, which is why I was worried. I don't know if it's a problem or not, so I thought I'd ask. She's...

    Swollen Abdomen

I have a hen, an ameraucana/rhode island mix, around three years old, and I noticed the other day that she was walking kinda funny, all stiff and scrunched up, so I felt around and her abdomen is swollen. She doesn't lay anymore, so I don't think it's a lodged egg. Could it be that she's...

    Infected/Broken Toe: What to do?

Yeah, mine always stay far away from everything but drinking water. Anyways, her toe is definitely dead and should fall off within the week, I think. I haven't tried to take it off because I don't want to start anything I can't stop, plus it would be bad for the poor hen. I got all of the...

    Infected/Broken Toe: What to do?

@KikisGirls It most definitely was! @henny1129 I love how you used the word "try". xD They don't take to baths so well, huh?

    Infected/Broken Toe: What to do?

She definitely is. ^~^ She made a salty water mess all over the bathroom mirror when she wanted out and flew.

    Infected/Broken Toe: What to do?

@Eggcessive Thank you for the advice. I use Valbazen when we have a worm outbreak, and it's saved a number of hens, even from the brink of death. As for the bugs, I'll see what I can do with all of that. I recently heard that wood ash could be used on pests such as lice and mites, so I might...
