    Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Both of your birds appear either Black or Blue, not Silver Partridge. Silver Partridge will have light silvery necks and patterning on their wings. Pretty birds. If they are Blue you will get Blue, Black or Splash. If they are Blue/Black you will get Blue or Black. If they are Black...

    Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

If you really have silver partridge then all the chicks will be white/brown chipmunk chicks (not gold or yellow/brown). However, genetics are mixed on most of these colors.. but ideally you will want to keep the white/brown ones and not the other colored ones. Do you have pictures of your...

    Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

You will not see a chart for breeding Partridge to anything except Partridge. Even if you breed Parti to Parti you can get mixed colors because not all Partridges are really Partridge, many are mixed colors. Silver Partridge is Partridge with a Silver base instead of Gold - so you could get it...

    California - Northern

You will get Black or Blue. All children will be split to lavender. No Splash because both parents have to carry Blue to have Splash. F2 (second generation) crossed back to the blue father can give you Splash from the Blue girls. Lavs are two copies of lavender over black. Have fun.

    California - Northern

Blue x lav is not a recommended cross. They are two different genes. Lavender (lav) is recessive and needs two copies to show, Blue is incomplete dominant and shows with one copy. Black is no copies of Blue - but CAN hide one copy of lav. Lavender and splash can look the same - although the...

Hello and Welcome Linda, and Welcome to BYC! Nice choice of birds, I love the longtails. You may be able to train your dog that those are your birds - and not to chase them off. It took a couple of times before my dog learned it, but she doesn't even look at them now. You might want to join...

    Silkie thread!

Yes, the hen can hear the eggs. And she will set until the last eggs hatch, mine sat for 6 days. Leave the chicks in close quarters so they don't run off and call momma away from the eggs and they will probably all hatch for you. Be sure and post pictures when they are all fluffed out and...

    Silkie thread!

I am a bit behind, but I do not see where this was answered. Breeding White into Splash will not "clean up" the Splash.. it will mess up the genetics. Genetic colors do not mix like paint. White is two copies of recessive White hiding every genetic possibility under it. No clue what you will...

    Silkies Of A Different Color

I do not see your boy as being a Calico or a Torti. He appears Blue Partridge of a sorts. Use him with Partridges. I suspect the mother was a blue. I would not use him in any pen with solid colors as that red leakage will show up on the boys and hide under the girls. You can use him with...

    Silkie thread!

Thanks Chickee. I am getting better but its a slow road. I am not going to be able to drive to Chickenstocks I am so sorry about your porcelain chick! She was a beauty too... Yes, the Whites are easy to perfect - and you can make more whites in two generations using any color rooster...

    Silkie thread!

Feather sexing does not work on Silkies. Guessing sometimes works - but only if you know your lines. The only thing that really works is if they lay an egg. Otherwise.. its a guess..

    Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

No, sorry. They look like mid term quitters, possibly when the temperature spiked. If they were still alive the whole egg would be dark with just the air cell light. Your one chick will be fine with just its momma. I would give them all to the hen next time, they are super-incubators!

    Silkies Of A Different Color

Unfortunately Gold Partridge is Partridge - the "Calicos" have no gold in them. If they did - they would be Golden (boys) or Partridge. Calling them Torti works for me, better than Calico. I have a young boy who looks very much like yours (even including the silver leakage)...anybody in...
