Hi chicken keepers! I have 9 chickens. 2 older hens (over 2 years), 6 pullets (17-19 weeks old) and 1 19 week-old rooster.
I have a "safe" coop that the chickens sleep in. It's not that large (maybe about 18 sq. feet, but has 3 rows of 2x4s--plenty of room for sleeping). They have a very large...
I just want to share this. . . I have beeen raising chickens for a little less than 2 years. In our first flock we had 4 hens and 1 accidental rooster (we decided to gamble with "unsexed" barred rocks at TSC and got a BSL cockerel). He ended up being HUGE (towered over the hens) and mean. By 20...
Ok. . . so I am definitely using this term wrong. These are soft shell or shell-less eggs. The shell just looks like a soft sack. The inside is normal.
I have 2 hens that lay every day and are about a 16 months old (and 10 pullets but they're not important here).
One of the hens, a starlight green egger, has been having about one shell-less a month for the last four months. Is that relatively normal? I'll go to check and she'll either have an...
Ok thank you. She doesn't have any other signs of Marek's, so I'm still hopeful. I will try some supplements. It's weird, she did that for about 30 minutes, but since then has been normal. I noticed because another (older) chick pecked her a few times.
She's been free ranging the last few...
She was fine yesterday. Just started doing this an hour ago. 11-12 week old EE (and her rooster who is upset I just separated her).
Can it be something else?
I posted this and now she’s walking around (pacing rhe cage I just put her in) but I’m worried.
I am also leaning towards cockerel. Honestly I would love it if this chicken does warnings calls. The last cockerel we had just constantly attacked the dogs.
This is my 10-11 week old EE named Penguin. I have been thinking for a few weeks that Penguin was a cockerel (behavior, bigger comb, red splashes all over, and looks like they might be getting saddle feathers).
Today I was startled by a loud egg song….very distinct….very “egg song”! So I went...
Just to update--after a week of steady decline, she died. The last 24 hours I didn't really expect her to keep living. There has been no other sickness in the flock. I had 2 days of some bloody poop from another (not sure which) chick, but that's gone away with a week of corid.
So I've been giving her corid for a day, and a little drop to the rest of the flock. She looks the same--sleeping all day, unless I force her to drink. She drinks a bit, kind of moves her head rapidly side to side for a sec (I don't know what this is even after much googling), then has diarrhea...
So this is day 3 and she is now sleeping while standing (instead of laying down). She will drink TINY amounts of water if I force her, and has not eaten that I can see. She's still in a cage by herself with a blanket which she doesn't leave.
When I make her drink she fights me a little (which...
Hi- this is the next morning, and she is awake but barely moving (basically she responds if I move her in some way but that’s it). She will drink little bits of water or Gatorade only if I manually dip her beak in it. Not eating. She had a couple runny poops. Is this a normal part of shock after...
