I added to my flock today!!
I bought hatchling Barnevelder, Barred Rock and a Buff Brahma! They're adorable.
I'm also raising a Barred Rock, a Buff Brahma and a Buff Orpington for my fiance's boss. They don't want to raise the babies to featherhood, so we are going to do it for them...
There is a lot of coyote chat going on!
I've lived in downtown Tucson, mid-town Tucson, a couple blocks from the University of Arizona football stadium and now down by the Airforce Base. I can say that I have seen coyotes EVERYWHERE.
There must be some kind of recent population explosion...
WoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooW!!!!!!!!!!!
That is great! Actually your photos is what made me think of aquaponics! They look so healthy. I just went to a workshop at EcoGrow on aquaponics! I am really impressed with your set up. Great job. Beautiful. :)
Does anyone in Arizona do aquaponics? I am interested in trying aquaponics this spring. I hear it is really good for growing vegetables. We are interested in having koi and if they fertilize my veggies and make tomatoes possible in Tucson, that is great!
My silkie really surprised me. From what I researched on Silkies they take up to a year to mature (to crow or lay) and she started laying very young. Probably 5-6 months. Her eggs are very small, she is petite. She can fly, but doesn't. She fluttered about quite a lot as a baby chick. Her...
In my brief time keeping chickens and now this pheasant, I am amazed how hardy birds are. I always thought they were very fragile creatures. I have seen them survive a lot.
He is in his own pen. I think I'll leave it alone. The skin isn't broken.
I'm more concerned about finding him a permanent home. Is there such a thing as pheasant rescue groups?
Hi there!
I have 2 Welsummers, 2 Iowa Blues, 3 Easter Eggers, 2 Rhode Island Reds, 1 Ancona and 1 Silkie/Cochen mutt hen. They're all hens. Also found an injured pheasant 2 days ago. Trying to find his owner through online classifieds, but no luck. I'm not really sure what to do with him...
That is very exciting! Congratulations on your Turkeys laying.
I have a friend in Tucson, who successfully raises her Turkey hen with her chicken hens. Do you recommend that?
Update:
Hen is fine. We caught the cat in the trap by baiting with tuna. The cat seemed tame enough. We drove it a couple miles away and let her out. I don't wish ill on the cat.
Hi,
I'm Liz. I live in Tucson. My fiance and I have 11 hens and a pheasant we rescued just yesterday from the road. He's been hit by a car, but he seems to be better today. Trying to find his real owner.
If you live in Tucson and you're missing your pretty pheasant, reply to me...
My fiance and I left the house around rush hour yesterday and were pulling out onto a main road. Then we see a bewildered bird in the middle of the road almost get killed by a car. What was it? A mallard? A peacock? No. It was a pheasant. Such a strange sight for the desert.
We pulled...
I was pretty surprised too. They're not super little kittens. They're probably 3-5 months. My yard is completely surrounded by a 7 1/2 foot tall cinderblock wall. The hens are typically in their coop area that is pretty big and pretty secure.
They were wandering about when the kitten got...
