Thanks - took a bit to find a vet - glad I found one that isn't too far away. Snow was our best layer 5/6 a week. Sad that this is so common especially since 2-3 years old isn't that old, but maybe in a hen's life it is.
Yes, her comb did flop a lot, but the last few days it was droopier than normal. took her to the vet today and he said she had Egg Yolk Peritonitis. Advised to put her down. So very sad.
Update on Snow - took her to the vet today and he said she had Egg Yolk Peritonitis. Advised to put her down. So very sad. Thanks for all your assistance.
Well I gave her a 30 minute massage/soak - she got very relaxed, so far nothing happening. I did cook her an scrambled egg and she ate very well. Her belly seemed a bit harder than yesterday. When we put her back in the coop, she pooped - looks ok to me - what do you think?
Some background: My girls turned 3 in March. Fall was their first real molt.
A couple of weeks ago one of our girls suddenly died. Showed no symptoms of being sick, that being said she was a very skittish girl and a few days before she died she seemed to want to be close to us when we went out...
We checked and couldn't find anything. no coughing or sneezing, eyes are clear. She's doing all normal things except as the weeze.
Called our vet and took her in. As we were waiting for a few minutes she didn't weeze for a little while (1st time all day), we did notice that her crown and beak...
We have brought her into the house, gave a few drops of VetRX. Yes shes is moving about normally, eating alfalfa sprouts and her feed. Poop is normal. Eyes are normal. Ill try and do the you tube video - haven't done that before.
