OMG Anyone ever got a 3x yolker?*****Pic of inside on PG. 4******

Quote: The rooster has nothing to do with the blood spot in the egg. A blood vessel broke while the egg was being made that's all. Thanks, I thought there was a major chicken malfunction!!

    Calling all soup gurus ...

If you are really into making your own stock save your chicken bones too, especially the wing tips (throw in a freezer bag until you have enough), then simmer when ready. Always throw in some carrot, celery, and onions. Those are always the basics for a stock since they add some great rich...

    apple fruit leather recipe

Oh, you don't know what you are missing, unless you have had a fruit roll up or something like it. Homemade kind is usually know as fruit leather. It is dehydrated pureed fruit without all of the perservatives and added dyes. Very tasty and a great way to perserve your fruit bounty. Yum!

People that use their food dehydrators please read.

If I were you I would try the oven method to tide you and your waiting apples over. I am not the biggest fan of the dehydrator circles. I find that my fruit leather always sticks like glue to the sides. I try to stay even, but can't be perfect...

    apple fruit leather recipe

I am no expert, but I typically use applesauce for my fruit leather. The key is to make sure you spread it very evenly or it dried unevenly. I haven't found a way to keep the leather from sticking to the dehydrator tray...gets like concrete! I wasn't sure if I should use non-stick spray before...

Can i add a "raw" egg to my dogs food?...is it safe?

Great idea! This will be interesting to try with my dogs. My pound puppy just looks at me with her best "Your kidding, right?" face. She even sucks the sauce off of kidney beans from chili and spits the bean on the floor beside her bowl. She also picks any veggie out and also deposits that on...

    Pecking order and age

Oh, I am so not looking forward to adding to the flock someday because of this. I couldn't stand to watch the little girls get picked on. I am all about equality and fairness...good thing I am not a chicken cause I would be squawkin even more!

    bury your eggs!

All I can think of is that she is part Beagle! Sorry, not teasing. Very strange behavior, never heard of such a thing. Do you use shavings? Perhaps a medium that is harder to dig into would be useful, like hay. Might be worth a try and easier to see through.

Suplimental lighting for production in the darker months

I am just trying the lights right now...it is entertaining to see the sour look on the beef cows face's when the girls are basking in the glow of warmth and light inside their snug shed. Plus, they have been getting the food scraps the cows used to solely get. I unknowingly have created some...

How strange. I have been buying my eggs from another local farmer, so far nothing that eggciting. I did get one bloody egg. I thought this was strange since she doesn't have any roos. Is that normal?

Is she about to give birth...

Wait a minute...the color of the comb and waddle determines when they are ready to start egging? Red is good? If so, oh joy!! There might be hope!!

    New layers and egg size

I am green with envy about your early birds. Mine are on strike...without even working yet.

    30 weeks and counting...

Glad we are all in the same henhouse!! I am coming up on close to 30 weeks with my girls and am eyeballing the nesting boxes like crazy. DH and I just put up a timer and light system so they are getting enough "daylight" since it is getting so dark so early. My next step is to post a picture of...

    Pumpkin questions

I experimented with pumpkins this year. The girls love them. They even ate all of the meat and most of the rind! I was a bit surprised...It was hilarious to watch them scratch the guts out of the pumkin halves! Happy Holloween to the girls!!
