Questions on window placement/how many and exterior color

Ours stay out most all day too, they usually go in around 8:30 at night and we lock them up. Thank you for the input, it really helps.

Questions on window placement/how many and exterior color

I had the same thoughts on the darker colors as far as absorbing the heat. Does it seem to bother them in the summer? This last two weeks here has been unseasonably warm and humid but as a rule it is quite comfortable at night, in the 50's.

Questions on window placement/how many and exterior color

We thought the Wyandotte's wouldn't want their feet in the snow...maybe it wouldn't matter. I thought that with them being able to get out during the day into the fresh air and out of the coop that would help with the respiratory issues. We will have ventilation holes on the north and south...

Questions on window placement/how many and exterior color

Hello Everyone, We are adding to an old coop that was on our property because the original is too small for all the gals. When completed it will be 18' x 10' and we will be putting in a metal exterior door on the 18' side. We live in Central NY and the winters can be quite harsh and long...

New to BYC ~ Some pics of my chicks

This spring I saw some really cute baby chicks at the local feed store while picking up dog food. I mentioned them to my husband, who said he wouldn't mind a "few" chickens. We decided 4 should be plenty.....right. We had an 8x10 insulated coop already that was on the property when we bought it...

Idea's to stop my cat thinking of my chickens as food.

We have two BR and Emelia, named so because of her "flying" at ability at 2 weeks old, is without a doubt the head honcho. I think if there was a real threat our roo would hide behind her
