3 year-old layer laid a rubbery red mass in nesting box

she just passed. went to check on her after posting this. i'd welcome any ideas - might help other people looking to diagnose if their hens are having this issue. i'll see if i can get a necropsy but its hard in this area for birds

3 year-old layer laid a rubbery red mass in nesting box

My 3-year old easter egger hasn't had any signs of an illness until today, diet and activity level was pretty normal. She stopped laying for a few weeks, but I thought she was taking a break, she usually lays 3-4 eggs a week. * Edit/added * I had given her corid - full dose - in her water for...

Hen with runny droppings for a few days

Hello, I have a Plymouth Black Rock who has been passing diarrhea-like droppings the past few days. She also has been drinking water a lot more in those few days, not sure if that is a symptom of the diarrhea or what is causing it. I note at the bottom that I saw other photos and read other...

Buff Orphington suddenly lethargic and periodically opens mouth

I already have cut out the oatmeal for the rest of the flock the 1/4 cup was not given to her solely, it was separated into 2 dishes shared amongst 5 hens.

Buff Orphington suddenly lethargic and periodically opens mouth

Wheezy didn't make it. We had an appointment scheduled for today at the vet, but yesterday I had started seeing the writing on the wall. Yesterday, her lethargy was at its worst, but after a few naps she had seemed to improve, which gave me hope. Today she was struggling this morning to walk...

    Is this a rooster?

Yup that looks like a hen to me, yours looks pretty round in shape. I have 2 Black Plymouth Rocks who were aggressive with the others, and I had the same thought when one of them was maturing 😂

It does look like it has thiamine, but thiamine mononitrate But its probably the same amount as regular food/feed - so it would be okay?

Buff Orphington suddenly lethargic and periodically opens mouth

Alright will do. Thank you! I am worried about food. I have been giving her the Harrison Recovery Formula as her sole source of food, and that has Vitamin B. Would she be fine without food if I can't get her to accept solids/food? Harrison Recovery Formula Ingredients:

It had just come in, I had gotten the liquid version. So that would be 2tsp per gallon of water, and just feed that as her sole water intake? I had also given her vitamin B today - should I wait? Also would that mean I should stop giving her the electrolytes as well, it does have vitamin B.

I did forget to add in the most recent post, her crop did feel a bit flat today in the morning.

Thank you both, I've bought a jar of coconut oil. Feeding it to her chilled, but having some difficulty as she is not accepting solids voluntarily. I have purchased some vitamin b complex and began administering it to her. In terms of her puffy-ness, she usually is puffy, but she does seem...

Buff Orphington suddenly lethargic and periodically opens mouth

She has yet to lay her first egg, she is roughly 10 months old. I've read in other threads with other Buff Orphington owners that they can be a bit slower to mature(?). Doughy is a good word, it did feel like that. She hasn't been drinking or eating on her own, still feeding her through a...

Buff Orphington suddenly lethargic and periodically opens mouth

I have taken a video of her this morning outside: Her poops from today I guess I would say she is squat-standing. She has been positioning herself lower today. I have noticed some tail throbbing but it’s not too overt. I do have liquid vitamin B-12 on hand and I have started to...

Buff Orphington suddenly lethargic and periodically opens mouth

She is able to stand, and walk around - albeit she doesn't walk around much. I was able to drop off poop samples for a fecal test, I collected hers and rest of the flock. So I will hold off on de-worming her. Today is more-less the same, she hasn't been eating and drinking on her own, and...
