    Limping and panting quail

O no! What do they look like? Is she getting better now? Here's Pedro. I don't see any injury or mites. It's her right leg that is hurting her. I think the source is up at the top of her leg or hips.

    Hen hasn't been eating

What are you feeding her? Have you tried offering her different food? Is she fluffing her feathers? Do you have pictures? She may have gotten sick from the normal food and is scared to eat it. I would try offering some different things to see if she is avoiding all food or something specific...

    Limping and panting quail

Interesting... did he have any suggestions to help clear up the fluid? Pedro isn't sneezing as much as she used to when she was younger (she used to sneeze a lot...), but this is the first time I've heard the wheezing / whistling noise while she's breathing. She can even chirp at the same time...

    Limping and panting quail

O wow. That sounds traumatic! I heard it's hard to find a vet who knows how to help birds. Pedro also started making a wheezing noise sometimes when she's breathing. She's getting old I guess. Hope your sweety pie gets better soon!

    Limping and panting quail

Let me know if you figure out anything for her leg. My Pedro has been limping since her last batch of eggs hatched in July. I can't find any swelling or obvious injury, but I also suspect something related to a joint or maybe her hips. Might have been caused from sitting on her eggs or babies...

Lost Gambel quail . Frightened and flew away

O that's so great!! :wee Thank you so much for the update! I have been worried about her all day! (I know how worried I get when my sweetheart is out too long, esp overnight - which has only been twice in the last 3.5 years.)

Lost Gambel quail . Frightened and flew away

Do you hear her answering you when you call? Does she know the neighborhood well enough to find her way home? They usually don't go far. Don't give up. Calling for her will help her find her way home. My gamble sometimes goes outside, but she always comes home at night. If I get worried about...

California Quail only laying infertile eggs

The enclosed porch could work, too. I've had gambles live in an enclosed porch and it works great. They have lots of space to run and fly and it's easy to hang out with them. How cold does it get in PA? I think California quail usually live in warmer climates.

No waste feeders Failure to thrive

Looks like that little one is getting picked on. She has a bald spot on her back. Probably good you separated them. My first batch of quail didn't like one of their siblings and would try to block her from getting to the food and water. So I had to keep her separated. She turned out to be the...

How to Release Abandoned Baby Quail?

Aww. It's so cute!! :love Looks very young... I agree about 2 days old. If you are able to keep it while it gets bigger it'll have a better chance to survive. I don't think it'll be able to find its family again at that age.

How to Release Abandoned Baby Quail?

How old/ big is the baby? Maybe post a picture if you can. If it's big enough and it hasn't been too long, it might be able to find its family again, bc they probably come through everyday. But if it's little, I agree it would be better to let it get bigger somewhere safe before releasing.

Help: Day 23 abandoned Gamble Quail eggs

I recommend releasing gradually if you can around the time the quail start forming coveys. (They are a little aggressive while they are paired up with their kids.) When I introduced my gambels to the neighborhood (around 10 weeks old - end of August) they stuck around for a while. I expected...

    Home-Made quail food

Quail love chia seeds, especially when laying eggs, but be sure to soak them in water first.
