There are 4 one foot square nesting boxes in the coop.
Once I install better wheels, which will be pretty soon, I will be able to move it more often. I feed 16% layer pellets free choice, oyster shell free choice, layer feed soaked in water to make a mash out in the run, a big dish of water...
It is a chicken tractor, I forgot to mention that. I move it at least twice a week. I do have plans to separate some into a separate coop at some point...guess I better do that sooner rather than later.
This has been happening for a few weeks now, but today I finally saw it. One of my easter eggers laid her egg in the middle of the run and then ALL of the chickens ran over and ate every last bit of it in a matter of seconds.
I have 17 hens and 1 rooster. It's a little crowded in my setup...
Well, I just read the "Think it's too cold for your chickens? Think again..." thread, so I will not be adding heat, but probably will shovel some more snow on the coop once the sun goes down a bit.
Edit: I just checked the temp, and it was 40F in there!! Definitely no heat lamp tonight...
I have a 6'X4'x2' chicken tractor house with attached PVC pipe run. I didn't prepare the chickens at all ahead of time since it wasn't that cold yesterday and I guess I didn't realize it was going to be a blizzard! Last year's blizzard I only had 4 chickens, so I put them in the shed in a...
Well she appears to have recovered! I let her sleep outside and just left her out today with supervision to see how she was doing, and she's just as bossy and fiesty as she used to be. I gave her a bath over my lunch break to clean off some of the poop and shell-less egg that was crusted to...
Boy she DOES love yogurt and egg. Look at that messy face! I accidentally dumped the entire cup of yogurt in with one egg, which is why it's so watery.
I ended up buying a water soluble vitamin and electrolyte mix from Tractor Supply, which is why her water is yellow. She's drinking it very...
Well I came home and she's drinking on her own! And she ate a few bites of refrigerated peach I gave her. I mixed a vitamin & electrolyte animal supplement (says it's appropriate for poultry) in her water and she is still drinking.
Now I'm unsure if I should force-feed her the yogurt and egg...
My boss chicken, an easter egger, collapsed from heat exhaustion yesterday afternoon. I brought her inside and gave her a bath. I've been giving her water with a pipette, and she's in a pet carrier lined with hay inside the house (78ish degrees F).
I have been seeing small improvements, but...
Okay, that's what I was thinking after doing some research.
The day I bought another sack of all purpose crumbles because a friend told me they wouldn't lay until mid-summer, I found eggs in the nest boxes! I am just about out of that bag, so I will be getting the proper feed tomorrow or...
So basically, get them more calcium? I had planned to do that, just hadn't gotten around to it yet. I'll probably get to the store tomorrow or Saturday. In the mean time, she's in a pet carrier until I get back from work tomorrow so she can fully dry from her bath. Maybe I'll find an egg...
I have an easter-egger chicken that's 7 months old. Her three sisters are laying eggs almost every day, but she does not appear to be laying. I had 4 eggs one day, and then two days after that, there was again a 4th egg but with EXTREMELY thin shell. I have not had a 4th egg since then and...
