    Two hens laying two eggs at a time!

    One of my Buff Orpingtons will occasionally pull a double-header if she has skipped a couple days laying. Every time she has laid two, one of them is very thin/soft shelled, like it wasn't "done".

    First egg after 9 months???

    I don't have a Speckled Sussex, but congratulations! I have five Buff Orpingtons that are almot 10 months old. Yesterday, for the first time we had three eggs! Woo-hoo!

    Pancakes + Chickens = Hilarious

    I hand feed treats to my Buff Orpingtons, too. The other day I made some popovers that didn't "pop" so well. My sweet girls - the little monsters - about took my fingers off snatching at the popovers!

    Cleaning eggs

    I don't. They are usually pretty clean, but if not I just give it a swipe with a paper towel. Into the fridge they go. Fesh eggs have a natural coating ( I think it's called "bloom") that help maintain freshness.
