    Coop company suggestions for Australia

I agree with Sally, to build one is much cheaper than to buy one. However if you're still wanting to buy, Somerzby has good coops, they are very expensive though and not that big if you have a lot of chickens. You could buy a shed and add roosts etc. which would give you more room, then build a...

HELP! First time hatching - Staggered hatching

Thank you for your reply. Yes, I just quickly cracked the lid and got the chick out. I don't have any way to check the humidity with my incubator. I will definitely make sure I'm more prepared the next time I decide to hatch eggs.

HELP! First time hatching - Staggered hatching

UPDATE: I moved the hatched chick under the broody last night and this morning it's doing great and up and about with the rest of the chicks. One more chick hatched over night and another has just externally pipped🥰

HELP! First time hatching - Staggered hatching

Thank you for your reply. Sorry, I probably didn't make it very clear. Because I'm not exactly sure of the hatch date of all of the eggs (from candling I think they're all due within 4-5 days of each other), I didn't know whether putting the incubator into lockdown would be bad for any eggs that...

HELP! First time hatching - Staggered hatching

Hi All, I put a post recently about my broody sat on 19 eggs. I realise now that because she was in the main coop the other chickens were laying in her box for a few days after she went broody. 10 eggs successfully hatched on Fri (30th Sep), and 1 chick was dead half out of the shell. I'm moved...

18 chicks with broody, do I need to use heating plate as well

Hi All, I have a broody hen (Wyandotte), who is sat on 19 eggs. I candled them two days ago and all seem to be growing and alive. Due to hatch in 7 days time. I'm worried that if most of them survive the hatch that they won't all be able to fit under her to keep warm. Once they hatch should I...

    Severely underweight pullet

Thanks everyone for your comments. She is still eating and drinking well and generally seems good. As a new chicken Mum, I panicked and thought if they got cocci there was no hope.

    Severely underweight pullet

I have 4 plymouth rock pullets, almost 7 months old. Have just had first egg laid this week. One of them was a little quieter this week and I found bloody poop in the coop. I had a poop sample tested at the vets and it came back positive for Coccidiosis so I have started them on treatment. When...

    Hiding Chickens

Hi All, We have just inherited 4 older chickens with a new house we bought, 1 Australorp and 3 Sussex (no eggs in the last 4 days). The previous owners said they would leave lots of information, but all we got was 'they don't really lay anymore' and some of their food left for them. They are...
