Well, we found one of the eggs but not the other. It has some scratches on it that might be teeth or claw marks...not sure. Either way, they don't seem to be hers so I'm thinking something tried to make off with them and realized along the way that they weren't actually food. Still watching...
Thanks! Will do. It had to be on a Sunday. All of our pets have had this tradition of waiting until a holiday or Sunday to do something that warrants an expedient viewing by the vet! Ugh...
She's three but so insanely dialed into the anything she deems edible which includes chicken feed/ scratch, any plastic wrappers that have even touched food, sticks, etc..
We had to take her to the vet in her first year because she got into a jar full of chocolate chips that my boys didn't put...
Ok, so here is the scenario...
Our chickens free range and decided to make a nest in the brush outside. We discovered it and took the eggs but replaced them with two fake eggs hoping they would continue to lay there and not find new place that we might not find. We live in the mountains /...
We happened across a local breeder that just happened to have one of these when we picked up our EE. We got her as an adult who was handled very little so I suspect that is why she is not as friendly as the rest of our hand raised flock. She is a very spritely little bird who is a joy to...
We have a splash langshan that is easily our most beautiful bird. She is not particularly friendly but is rather easily handled when she goes broody. To be fair, we purchased her as an adult and suspect she wasn't handled much like the majority of our girls so the contrast is somewhat stark...
We loved that we knew we weren't getting a roo and were super excited about the blue eggs that were to come however, they seem to be a more sea foam greenish. She's a great layer but not the nicest bird. She's a bit skittish and a bully with the other girls from time to time. She won't put up...
Wow. We really thought we were getting a tough hawkish bird that would be somewhat scrappy but I can honestly say she is, by far, the nicest bird in our flock. She is more like a dog at times. Anywhere we are in the yard, there she is. She is a great companion and never runs from us or the...
Big beautiful stark white eggs. Can count on her laying like clockwork. Phenomenal forager and super alert. One of the first to respond when we call and put herself to roost at night. She doesn't love being handled but is a sport and very quiet and gentle. Bright bird. We enjoy having this...
Our Silver Laced is a solid layer. She gets along nicely with the other gals and is a good flock member. She isn't full of personality or our best layer but her mellow disposition and ability to tolerate handling makes her a good addition to our well rounded flock.
We have one EE and she is not the sweetest or most personable bird. We got her as an adult and she was not handled much so I suspect that has something to do with her disposition. If I were to describe her personality, I would have to say "crotchety old maid". She is, however, one of our best...
Our Barred Rock is one of the most reliable in our flock of many. She is calm, gets along with everyone, easy to handle, and doesn't really mind being toted around by our two boys. Very regular layer and hearty. Not bad as a forager. Super stable girl and good neighbor.
