lethargic chick, can't keep head up, what am I doing wrong ?

Awesome to hear! I’m so happy to see they’re doing better, and that Squiggle has improved so much :) On the topic of paper towels, they can be hard on them because they aren’t as absorbent as shavings and can need changed frequently to prevent the ick, and they sometimes step in the poos and...

lethargic chick, can't keep head up, what am I doing wrong ?

True, they might appreciate the opportunity to hunker down with a box hut, or somewhere to practice perching. It’s possible squiggles was just missing a little vitamins from hatching and the new move. They seem like a skittish breed, but very neat! If they’re improving, it could be resolving...

lethargic chick, can't keep head up, what am I doing wrong ?

The lamp will help make sure they can get to heat easier, which should help squiggle stay warm while “squiggling” about! Hopefully it comes up to temp soon

lethargic chick, can't keep head up, what am I doing wrong ?

They seem to be doing okay with the brooder plate, but the rolling and head position are super odd. Makes me thing vitamin issue, or maybe a genetic weirdness? Almost like wry neck, but I’ve never seen it in a chick so small. Maybe a little mash/scrambled egg? Poor chick at least looks like...

lethargic chick, can't keep head up, what am I doing wrong ?

Not bantams, but I tried brooding standard chicks with a brooding plate and it didn’t go well for me. The temperature can be uneven (think warmest in the center), the ambient air temp can be too low, and some or most chicks will choose warm over eating and drinking enough. For mine I had to...

Best Place to Get Turkey Poults?

I’m thinking that was the case with the first round. Lost a lot of workers and funding but the hatchery side matters a lot too. How did you incubate yours that were local? No losses is excellent and always the goal!

They had crushed granite chick grit, kept on layered paper towels for the first few weeks in case they had strange poops. It wasn’t “cold” when they shipped but if they were a day or two old and got too cold or hot shipping could that have done it? I figured at the time it was shipping problems...

Best Place to Get Turkey Poults?

Maybe that was it? I think it was overnight but who knows how they were treated before I got them. I’ve read horror stories of boxes of dead ones and I’d hate to lose them all. Porters has been the number one for quality and health that I’ve seen, I’m hoping I can get an order in buuuut just in...

Best Place to Get Turkey Poults?

Neat! We don’t have a lot of heritage turkeys around other than bronze, bourbon red, and royal palm; maybe I can change that haha. Anyone ever ordered from other hatcheries? I got 15 chicks several years ago and all but two died in the first week, my Slate and my chocolate hen took a lot of...

Awesome! Do the prices vary by variety? I’m guessing he’ll be updating before the season and before he takes orders.

Best Place to Get Turkey Poults?

I figured. I was trying to ask what they’d have and find out all about ordering, but never got a response. I was a little vague telling you guys what I contacted porters about, oops. Maybe there’s a line of us 😂 I know they’ve quit for the year and the website says to contact for orders in...
