Our lessons this year!
This year we tried chicks for the first time. A friend of ours had given us a brood of bantams whose mother had been killed b a hawk but they were about a month old. All but one ended up being roo's so they are gone. We got 12 pullets from TSC and had them in a giant...

Thank you all for the info and suggestions. We will definitely do things differently in the future. They are all living together happily now. The ducks were brooded with the chicks. Both are female so I'm not worried about horney boys chasing the hens!! The ducks do however like to sleep outside...
Sorry, was a long night. The existing flock did get to see them some in the brooder. I thought as separate species the existing flock would not pay them any attention. They don't any other bird or creature they come in contact with. I placed the 12 chicks the ducks grew up with in the now empty...
Today we finished their new house and installed in ground pool. ($7.48 at Walmart) everything was good to go and we put our 2 ducks in the run. We had 7 bantam mixes about 16 weeks old, 4 hens of various years, and a 3 year old banty roo. The little bantys charged and attacked both ducks, it...
A little time lapse. Our chicks are a little over 4 weeks, the pekins are a little over 3 weeks. I think in a week or two the chicks may join the others in the coop. We have a small older flock and some bantam adolescents.
I have 2 baby pekins and they do the same thing. Since they seemed to eat everything I figured they are trying to figure out which part is tastiest!! Ha ha these are my first ones also and they are funny!!!!
It has been a while since I posted. This year we got 12 pullets from tractor supply. A red mix breed. They're almost a month old and doing very well! We also got 2 pekins and these two are a blast!! They are almost 3 weeks old and over twice the size of the chicks. In the coop/run I have 4 adult...
I have a little banty with the exact same thing. He's about 5 weeks old and looks almost like yours in the picture. Legs just stretched out, very alert and energetic. What did you do? Did it work?
Thanks for the quick response. I buried her in the back yard already. I never thought of cutting it all open. Two days is pretty quick!! Baldy hung on for about a month. It really has me head scratching.....
Hello all, an update on little Ms Baldy. She continued having water to watery slightly colered poops. She never gained weight although ate quite a bit. We decided that instead of her moping around getting picked on by every other chicken we'd dispatch her today. It sucked but it's done, I...
I weighed all my birds today and will begin tracking their weights weekly to see how they are doing. One concern we have on all our hens is that I can feel the bone that runs down the middle of their chest. It is very well defined. Is this normal or should that be buried in meat/muscle? They...
Thanks for the replies!! Posted in my state thread today. I'm looking forward to learning and/or sharing my lessons too. I'll post some pics when I get some soon.
