    Sexing Barred Rock Chicks

I crossed a Barred Rock Rooster with Blue Plymouth Rock Hens. I've been reading about white spots and that they may indicate cockerel. Here's a picture of 2 of the Babies who hatched yesterday.

Comment by 'ChrisOSU83' in item 'Svart Hona'

We have 15 including our latest additions. We've hatched some in the Incubator but the Hens have also hatched some. They seem to not eat or drink a lot, very low maintenance. Has anyone ever eaten a Svarthona Egg? I am having a hard time doing it because they're so rare.

Did you end up mating the barred rock rooster with the Rhode Island Hen? If so what'd you get? Are they good layers? I plan on doing the same.

    Broody Hen in Jail

Thank you. This is what I needed to read: The amount of time needed to ‘break’ the hen will depend upon how determined she is. Check her daily by removing her from the cage. If she returns to a nesting box- back to jail she goes!

    Broody Hen in Jail

We have a Black Australorp who is Broody. I tried removing her, walking her around, and a day in Chicken Jail. She went right back to just laying in the box. Sometimes on nothing. She's back in Chicken Jail. How long should I leave her?
