Hen is not eating or drinking or perching

My 3 year old Sapphire Olive Egger did not want to eat or drink today. She wasn’t running around like everyone else. She didn’t perch with everyone at bedtime but nestled on the floor. I gave her some droppers full of diluted apple cider vinegar and water, and put water and food mixed with...

    non-broody fowl keepers

The last two springs, Henny Penny (she’s a Red Leghorn) went broody. It was nice because I put the new chicks under her, and she loved an cared for them for 6 weeks. This spring she didn’t go broody, so I had to get a heat lamp and reptile thermostat for the new chicks 😢. I forgot how...

Baby Sapphire egger with foster mom Henny Penny. Henny Penny was broody, so we picked up some baby chicks from Tractor Supply, and she raised and loved them as if they were her own.

Here’s Posy, one of my red leghorns, who was killed recently 😢😢. She was a good hen, smart, friendly, and a good layer.

What do you use to tell your chickens apart?

I use those exact ones on my hens, they’ve had them on for almost two years and it doesn’t bother them.

Red leghorn has been limping when she started molting but has no foot injury

Update on Princess Lay A: It turns out she had a torn ligament in her left leg, she couldn’t grip her toe. Not much I could do but wait for her to heal so I’ve been giving her vitamins, live and dry worms, boiled eggs, etc. She is standing and walking more, and started going outside with the...

    Hi I’m new

Hello to everyone! Thank you for all the warm greetings! I feel welcomed 😁. It’s great to meet so many fellow chick moms & chick parents. I can talk about chickens all day, and I think here I’ve finally found my people ❤️ This site is a great resource.

Red leghorn has been limping when she started molting but has no foot injury

I’ll try the epsom salt, they do like to perch during the day on the windowsill or other weird places. Maybe she landed badly. I looked for cuts or bumble foot but didn’t find anything.

Red leghorn has been limping when she started molting but has no foot injury

We looked very closely with a flashlight and magnifying glass at her vent, wings neck, etc like the article said and found no sign of lice or mites. Her skin looked normal beside the molting. I took her outside watched her for a couple of hours and she was actually flapping around the yard a...
