On of my hens is having a problem

I just collected some eggs from outside and one of them had a smear of blood on it. Can a bird pass anything while in this state? Should I just find someone who wants chicken tonight?

On of my hens is having a problem

As far as what they eat one must also include left overs from our kitchen, and they free range so all the bugs they can eat.

On of my hens is having a problem

I believe the bird is about three years old. I feed them Layana Crumbles. I don't think I have any honey but that is easy enough to get.

On of my hens is having a problem

I have noticed this this morning. What caused this and how do I help her? It looks as if she has an egg (or two) stuck in her and she can't get it out. She is making chicken noises and looks okay otherwise.

I have two chickens that eat the eggs

Nearly every day when I collect the eggs there is one that has been eaten with the shell crushed and one that has be eaten with a hole poked into the egg and the the yolk and white drawn out. I have 23 hens and I get about ten eggs a day. The bread is Americana. I have put a bowl with oyster...

My chickens are eating laid eggs!

My birds have taken it upon themselves to eat the laid eggs. I collect the eggs every evening and was averaging about eleven. That suddenly dropped to four or five. When we cleaned the coup out (do it about once a week) one hen was attacking the already laid eggs. She would break the shell and...

Some of my hens lay eggs with soft shells

My thanks to SueT and townchicks. I feed that a Layana(?) crumble that has oyster shell in it but from your advice I should add additional. I will give that a go.

Some of my hens lay eggs with soft shells

I have twenty-five hens (Americanas) and every day I get one or two eggs with a feeble shell. If you pick then up they are hard but they will break if you squeeze them too hard. It seems that I need to add something to the feed I give them. Any suggestions?

All but five have died and the ones left don't look so good

I bought 25 chicks from Ideal poultry that arrived 4 weeks ago. Seven died within the first 12 hours but I attributed that to the fact that they sent it out on the Monday that was MLK Day so it did not arrive until that Friday, the 23rd. But they have been slowly dying since. They appear to have...

I guess all the rooters I've had in the past started crowing around 5 weeks. Thank you for the feedback.

How old need a rooster be to crow?

I got a shipment of chicks in mid-October. I had ordered 20 hens and one rooster. Four of the chicks died in the first three weeks but all the rest stayed healthy. I had thought that one of the dead ones had been the rooster because (until this morning) there was no crowing. Four AM this morning...

    Need help with chick attacks!

I wasn't set up for two separate chick enclosures. I might be able to 'jerry rig' something but I dread the idea.
