    Socializing Baby Chicks

Thank you! At what age do chickens really start getting 'flighty' because both of mine already seem like they want to fly right out of their brooder

    Socializing Baby Chicks

I was able to pick them up fairly easily the first few days, but now I'm worried about having unfriendly chickens

    Socializing Baby Chicks

My two get super scared when my hand is in the brooder, or try to peck at it, which is not behavior I want to encourage. It's hard to hold them because they peck and move so quickly that I can't even pick them up in the first place. Is this normal for baby chicks, or are mine extra skittish?

    Socializing Baby Chicks

So, I have 2 baby chicks, a little over a week old I believe. One is a buff orpington, one is a slw, both females. I want to socialize them better, because right now, they're a bit unfriendly. They get very scared when I go to put my hand in their bin, and they are very flighty. Both birds have...

    Baby Chicks Arrived!

Today the other two chicks seem especially flighty and nervous, even pecking at me when I go to pick them up. Are most baby chicks like this, and it just takes time for them to become calmer? It seems a little unusual how scared and flighty they are.

    Baby Chicks Arrived!

Quick update: Penny and Buffy have become very bonded, which makes me feel bad for Ronnie, but she seems pretty happy, and she's also the easiest to pick up and hold. Today she was sleeping a lot, even when I was holding her, she fell asleep right in my hands. What do you guys do to get your...

    Baby Chicks Arrived!

I had to separate them because it was clear that Ronnie wouldn't stop pecking at Penny, and she was even starting to drag her. She's very warm though, and it helps that she's the biggest of the chicks.

    Baby Chicks Arrived!

So, my baby chicks arrived a day early, which was nice. I would've made this post sooner, but we were having trouble with the chicks, so I had started another thread about that. Anyway, we have one silver laced wyandotte named Penny, one light brahma named Ronnie, and one buff orpington who...

    Help!!

I'm wondering if it has something to do with the darker color of the slw. They still aren't getting along, although the buff orpington is doing fine with the slw.

    Backyard Brahmas!!

We turned off the heat lamp since it's been hot today, because the chicks got more stressed, so we turned it back on and they were okay. We tried to reintroduce the brahma and slw, but as soon as I set her down, she went after the slw. The buff orpington actually jumped in front and gave the...

    Backyard Brahmas!!

Hi everyone, I posted my own thread about this problem but I figured i'd post here too. I just got 3 baby chicks today, one buff orpington, one light brahma, and one slw. The light brahma is the largest, and the slw is the smallest. When I put them all in their large plastic bin, the light...
