Nope, no beans! Her feed has lentils and peas in it, but those aren't on the snack menu, near the run, or available in the parts of the yard they get to do supervised forage in.
Checked her over this morning at breakfast and didn't spot any lice/mites.
She was for enthusiastic about breakfast...
She's four months old and hasn't started laying yet.
Droppings-wise I saw some trace/small poops last night, and she just dropped a second good poop this afternoon. I'm hand-feeding the scrambled egg around 2x a day, and keeping feed and water available to her 24/7.
She's still quite...
We have a poop!
I've had her on probiotics and electrolytes, grower feed (Kalmbach), and have been hand feeding scrambled egg 2-ish times a day along with her morning treat (currently a single blueberry).
Her energy level is still low. I took her into the yard for about half an hour to...
Bit perkier this afternoon, better color in her comb and wattles. Both eyes open now, the breathing thing seems to have passed. She had a bit more scrambled egg -- offered it by hand until she was done -- and we bok-bok'd at each other a little. Still no good poops, but fingers crossed.
Day 2 Update: Rosemary made it through the night! She's eating/drinking, but her energy level is still low.
The only poop I could spot was a little lime green bile action, which is worrying.
She did take her morning blueberry (a treat everyone gets at breakfast right now), and I also hand fed...
Update: I've separated her from the others for now and she's settled into our big wire dog crate with some probiotics and electrolytes.
There's no audible wheezing when I press my ear to her chest, so I'm hoping a day or two of rest should help resolve what's happening, but will keep folks posted.
Hey all!
I just went out for my afternoon chicken time (I sit in the run and give the nuggets grass or other little snacks and sit with them for a while) and one of my flock, Rosemary, has some worrying, sudden symptoms.
She's low-energy, keeping one eye closed, and opening her beak every so...
I've kept chickens twice -- once several years ago, and we just started again -- and I chose to go with a fully enclosed run for a few reasons:
- We have pet dogs, and one of them has zero malice in his heart but is also desperate to play with chickens, who are not interested in that and also...
They've got a bit of a lip -- hard to see at that angle -- but this is exactly the feedback I needed re: size. I'll return them and find something a little bigger.
Thank you!
My flock is 11 weeks old, so I'm starting to look for possible nest box options. I spotted these this week and picked a couple up, but was hoping some folks with more experience could give me a second set of eyes.
Current flock is four birds: one White Leghorn, one California Can, and two TSC...
Noodles, my 2 yo pibble mix, is OBSESSED with the chickens. He's been gentle with them on the whole -- he just wants to snuffle them and be up in their business -- but since moving them to the coop/run he's provided Important Consulting Services in the predator-proofing department with his Big...
