    Extended run

I’ve attached a couple photos of the coop that we have as well as where it’s currently placed. My chickens normally have free range but last year when I went back to work while they were out ranging around, we had way too many losses. Foxes, coyotes, and even neighboring domestic dogs. I’d like...

    Who laid what?

Oh and I forgot, a few Black Australorps. My barnyard mix actually looks more like one of them than a sexlink.

    Who laid what?

Don't have pics handy right now. Two where hatched here (they are either barred rock/french black copper marans or buff orp/french black copper marans. They look like sexlinks. The actual sexlinks I got from a breeder as well as one silver laced Wyandotte.

    Who laid what?

Just went down to collect eggs, and I have some newbies who are probably going to lay soon and some that have started. I know I have black sex links, Barred rocks, one or two barnyard mix. One or both mix could have black Copper Morans. I really don’t know. But I thought this egg color was...

    Rooster behavior

Young roo, cockerel.. I meant the same thing. It is a hoot watching him race across the yard when he sees one of them try to exit the coop. Today, I am happy to report, they are ALL roaming but he is being watchful of where they are. Thus far he has not harmed any of them. He is otherwise a...

    Rooster behavior

I have 12 chickens. 11 hens, 1 rooster. They are all 16 weeks of age. Lately, the roo has been bossy/aggressive to half the flock. Not allowing them to mingle with his other girls. Often not letting them leave the coop. Chasing them right back in. These are free-range birds on 10 acres of...

Wry neck - not really an emergency

Well, I cannot even tell which one she is now. Hoping that is a good thing.

Wry neck - not really an emergency

I have less than a week old chick with wry neck. In just five days she has made strides. I quickly started her on vitamin E and selenium and drench. By 36 hours huge improvements. She is back with her flock and running around, eating and drinking. This morning I struggled to find her to dose her...

    Summer Camp Housing

We have a permanent structure/run on the adjacent 10 acre property to our home. I'd like to bring my hens over to my yard. Just a summer camp for them to freerange and my own personal enjoyment. Would one of those prefab coops/runs from TSC or Family Farm & Home be sufficient enough? We can...

    Introducing a Roo

Is is possible to introduce a rooster to an established flock of hens? They range from 1-3 yrs old. From PolishX, Ameraucana?, Buffs, Isa (10 total).

We don't do fermented but they are on pasture and we move them daily.

    Age to process...

Thanks, that what I am thinking. I am sure the farm that processes them will appreciate us splitting the lot.

    Age to process...

For the first time this year we purchased all cockerals for our meat birds. Cornish x. Today we have had them 6 weeks (so they are 6 weeks and what 2 days?). They are HUGE. Growing much faster it seems than when we did a run before. We send the last 2 we did at 8 weeks. Some huge, some...
