    Hawks and Poisonous Prey Colors

I just found a site that sells saddles and they have "Predator Eye Decals" to put on them. Has anyone tried these and had any luck? http://www.chickenarmor.com/#!product/prd1/3396018471/predator-eye-deterrent-set-decal---price-per-pair

    Hawks and Poisonous Prey Colors

It would be interesting to know if chickens in North America with "Red on Yellow" saddles (Coral Snake) get hit by hawks less often than others then.

    Hawks and Poisonous Prey Colors

Has anyone ever tried dyeing your chickens to protect them from hawks? I saw this article online and thought it might be a cool idea if it works. The logic behind the idea is that if your chicken is the color of poisonous prey (like brightly colored frogs) the hawk will avoid them...

    My 4th Hatch

My roo is a red EE and three of the chicks are from a barred rock hen and her chicks are sex linked in that the boys have to white dot and the one pullet doesn't. :)

    Normal teen rooster behavior or....?

I had a barred rock roo who never raised a hackle to anyone in the family but would get aggressive with strangers. He made wonderful dressing. Since then I have gotten a red EE roo who has never done anything even slightly aggressive to anyone. The difference is wonderful.

Odd leg shuffle-- new little dance-- why?

Or, like a woman who's not too terrible impressed and has to re-apply her lipstick and fluff up her hair. :D

Odd leg shuffle-- new little dance-- why?

It's how my year old girls respond to their roo.

Odd leg shuffle-- new little dance-- why?

They see you as roos. Since you are the only roos left you are suddenly at the top of the pecking order. When you approach them they assume it is to mate and they are submitting to be mounted. When you set them back down on the ground do they shake their feathers out then walk off?

    Decrowing Roosters.

My festus is just over a year old. In all his life he has never so much as raised a hackle at any person at all. He is a beautiful red EE who carries the blue egg gene though he is a little small. Since I am hatching eggs (the best reason to have a roo) for layers and meat I wish he were a...

    Decrowing Roosters.

The roo would have to be over a year old so that I would know that it was a sweetheart and not aggressive and not prone to attacking kids. He would have to be absolutely beautiful. And, because I want a roo for breeding purposes he would have to be exactly the breed/size I was looking for. And...

    Wont' stop moulting!

I have no experience with this but I have heard that black oil sunflower seeds are good for molting birds.

    SOS: Broody Hen!

The first time our hen went broody this summer I thought "She is so great." The second time I was saying "She is really serious about this." The third time I was "OMGosh get over it already." I kicked her out of the nest every day when I gathered eggs and made sure she ate and drank. She came...

Egg in the middle of yard......

Young pullets can sometimes lay in odd places. They haven't got their body signals, for when it's time to lay, figured out. No telling who's it is.
