We’ve had chickens for about 8 years and incubated our first batch of eggs for the first time from our hens this past summer. Up til then, we always bought chicks from our local Rural King (like a tractor supply chain)
well, we have lost every single baby…All the hens…and now only have two...
Thank you for all your help. We’ve decided to cull this chicken. She is suffering - very skinny. It is sad because she is alert and wants to get up and move but this is how we found her this morning.
Really wish I knew what is going on…Will keep watching the other birds to see what is going on...
Sadly Popcorn got worse even after vitamin B for a week and she died.
This one is Bunny. Feed is not moldy - it’s in a sealed container. My husband did spread new hemp bedding thinking that maybe with all the rain lately maybe there is some mold. We gave her a warm Epsom salt bath in case she is...
Suddenly another 6month old pullet is not herself. She was walking funny, almost like she was drunk. She eats if we put the food in front of her and drinks when offered water but stays in the ‘something is wrong’ pose.
When I checked her vent it was dirty and someone recommended an Epsom salt...
Popcorn, this pretty backyard chicken is less than 1 yrs old. She had been limping on one leg for a couple days…then got better. But about one week ago, suddenly can’t even hold herself up on her legs. She ‘waddles’ on her elbows instead. I’ve tried aspirin, I’ve tried Vit B and nothing seems...
I’m happy to report Cheeky is still alive! I used Epsom Salt and cleaned the area well and didn’t see any worms or maggots. Then when we saw it was an opening in her crop I put Swat to try and keep the flies away and also sprayed Banyx several times. She does seem a little on the thin side but...
When I went back tonight to put everyone up for the evening Cheeky, our injured hen was still acting completely normal. I sprayed her wound with saline and looked for maggots. Saw none. Then I noticed there was something green sticking out of the opening and I pulled it out it was a blade of...
Living here in SW FL and our rainy season just started...thankfully. I noticed this hen appeared wet under her throat near her crop but I thought she was just wet. After a couple days, about 3-4 she still looked wet so we picked her up today and saw this obvious issue! I feel like such a bad...
OMG my rooster has almost the same looking injury. We had no idea but two days ago decided to remove his overgrown spurs thinking maybe they were poking him. The removal(twisting until they outer spur came off) was easy but they next day is when we took a closer look and saw this red flesh and...
Hope you can give me some direction on how to help Latte, my 4 yr old rooster.
a couple days ago we noticed he was walking odd, like his spurs were bothering him, they were very long. Spoke to our local farm store and they recommended twisting off the spur, please don’t judge, it didn’t bother...
Hen started limping couple of days ago - getting worse so I snapped a picture of her foot and am thinking bumble foot. The circled area is 'crusty'. What are your recommendations? These are egg laying chickens, not pets but pretty friendly. Not sure she would stand for Epsom salt soak (as...
Thank you all. I did start giving him the Safeguard. Day one seemed ok, day two I gave it to him in the am, but he died later that day.
My heart sad, I’m blaming myself but trying to find the bright side...now I can reunited the hens into one flock with Latte (Mocha’s) brother.
Update on Mocha...no foul odor from his beak, no white or yellow lesions in or around his beak, crop feels flat. No nasal discharge. Plan to check his crop again tonight. We ‘free range’ by putting them in chicken tractors during the day then back in secure overnight coops at night. He still...
I need advice. My beautiful rooster Mocha lost his voice/crow about one month ago. I started giving him Vet RX in his water, plain yogurt, even put the Vet RX drops on his beak and under his wings and it’s only getting worse. Not sure what else I can do .
