Before I made this post last night we gave our hen a dose of ivermectin. If I can get ahold of the safeguard do I need to worry about her already having the ivermectin, like could it overdose her? Or would it just be like another treatment?
Also how will I be able to tell if the worms have...
I have recently discovered that one of our hens has worms. She has been lethargic, losing weight and sometimes runny poo. In the pen we have been keeping her in I saw 2 small white worms (kinda similar looking to a maggot) about a cm long.
Any product I would try to buy to deworm her would take...
Thanks,
I have heard a lot of good things about bantams and would like to try some. I know there are several different types of bantams, do you think the D'Uccle is the best or Cochin or one of the others?
I don't if it's going to work out tho the place i like to order chicks from won't ship...
We are going to be ordering some chicks this spring to add to our flock. We would like to try some new breeds (so far just have Barred Rocks and Rhode Island Red) We will be trying some meat bird breeds and maybe an Easter Egger.
But I would also like to try a bantam or two but I don't know...
Thanks for the great info! How would you recommend to control their feed like that if you had other chickens that are regular dual purpose that you aren't going to eat? Would they get along with other breeds?
Thanks for the ideas on the breeds. I will look into all of them.
And I don't want a pet I want a rooster to protect my 21, and soon to be more hens. And in time to give his contribution to the next generation.
But I cannot put up with a rooster attacking us or possibly hurting someone that...
I am going to be ordering some new chicks this spring to add to our flock. And since we had to take out our old rooster I would like to get a new one. The one we had before was a Barred Rock and he was great til he started to get older and then started attacking us. That's why we had to get ride...
I am looking at ordering some chicks this spring and I would like to try a meat bird. So far I have kept dual purpose Rhode Island Reds and Barred Rocks. But we would like to try raising a few meat birds over the summer and fall for their meat.
Any ideas on the best breeds?
Believe me Gldnrose I understand your quandary. I unfortunately have had to make that hard decision more than once. As far as our rooster problem went we did decide to rename him dinner. It wasn't an easy choice, I had raised him from an egg we hatched ourselves. But in the end it was all we...
If there's no feather loss yet I wouldn't worry about it. That is natural rooster behavior. No sense driving youself crazy over a problem you don't have.
Sorry it took me so long to update this post. But I wanted to let you guys know that everything is fine with my hen. I checked her the next morning and she was fine, no sign of any runny bubbles on her eyes. And every day since she has been fine. Thanks for all the help and advice. :)
Thank you guys so much. You've given me a lot to go on. Hopefully she will be fine in the morning.
Eggcessive - you mentioned Gallimycin to be put in the water. If i was to go with that should i just give it to the sick chicken or put that in the water for all the chickens? I live in a rural...
So what should i do? Is there something i should give her? Should i separate her from the others? Or is it best to put her down if she doesn't get better?
