Well my very first real winter was 2006/2007. I had never seen it snow and hubby had reassured me if it did snow it would be gone in days. I'm glad we got the worst then because as a desert rat I've acclimated pretty well.
Stay warm everyone!!!
Thanks! This is my first winter with the girls. The water in the coop is just a 1 quart bowl so if they do knock it over it wont make too big of a mess. They did pretty good on the last storm except for when it was snowing. I think the hens are ready, don't know about me.
I have a quick question. How cold is to cold to let the girls out into the run? I have a heated water bowl in their coop and moved their feeder in to get it out of the weather. They have plenty of room inside but they do get grumpy!
Welcome to CO! I too am a refugee from AZ (a native). We have been here 7 years now and I love it! Now I have my chickens and we are eagerly awaiting our first eggs.
As an AZ native who knows where she was when it hit 127(The parking lots were softening) he has my sympathy. We haven't had much moisture but I'll take the cool . My girls are really enjoying it too!
Welcome! I too am an AZ native. Hubby and I moved to Las Animas in 2006, because this is where he grew up. I have been using all my AZ skills to keep my girls cool and comfortable. Love it here!
I have I Buff Orp., 2 White plymouth rocks. They are about 4 months old. Last week chicken math caught up with me and I picked up 3 silver Ameraucana chicks. Somebody special ordered them at the feed store in La Junta and never picked them up. They hatched on June 12. We live in town and are...
Well this is the first time posting on this thread but I have never felt excluded. This is my first time with chicken and have really enjoyed reading and learning from all of you. My girls are healthy and happy and a lot of that is due to all of the reading I have done here. I feel sure if I...
Thanks for the tip. We are in town and do have a very secure 6-ft tall wood fence for the dogs. Do raccoons climb fences? I did put a tarp over the top 'cause I'm more worried about birds of prey!
Well after much reading and research I finally jumped in with both feet. This is my first time with chickens and I am totally in love! I purchased my coop and pullets at the local feed store. Drove 180 miles and bought a really nice outdoor dog kennel. It's going to be very sturdy and safe and I...
