Easy to take up and down temporary fencing?

Not sure this will help, but I’ve had a similar issue and went with plastic fencing on t posts, except I don’t move the posts, I just made a gate of sorts to let them come and go when I’m ok with that. They haven’t hopped it, even tho it’s the same height as the real fence that’s further out...

Securing pop door on new coop

This is encouraging. Husband and I are now considering either making our run ‘officially secure’ so we don’t have to close the pop door, or getting an automatic door opener. He likes to check on them at night, so he may not use the automatic option, if turning that off is an option. Off to...

    Leanto Coop? (Maine)

Can you simply cover up that back ‘wall’ of chain link with boards, make or repurpose some kind of nesting boxes, and then make a wide ladder of sorts for the roosts? Make another wall for the front, cover with a curtain of hardware cloth, and make a makeshift door with latches. I am not an...

Securing pop door on new coop

We're thinking an outside door would be easier to install than one inside due to the way the roost is on the nesting boxes, but it won't look as nice. I suppose we could find some very narrow trim of some kind to make a track, or at least cut out a notch on any track material we use on that left...

Securing pop door on new coop

We dont have a covered run yet (for this coop), but thinking about it. We are upgrading from a prefab coop that had a built in run. I suppose if we secure the run then we could leave the pop door open. It feels so risky to me. We haven't had any predator problems...it is close to the house with...

Securing pop door on new coop

Thanks for the suggestion. We've thought about the guillotine style, but not sure how to make one. I'd prefer inside, but the nesting box roosts seem to be in the way...like almost to the edge of the opening. I've seen videos of people making their own door tracks with 2x4s and plywood, & I...

Securing pop door on new coop

We've upgraded to a new coop and are trying to sort out the pop door, which folds down with the chicken steps on the other side of the door. We'd like to put something there we can shut without entering what will be the run and without lifting up the steps. We've also considered an automatic...

Run attachment for innovation pet coop

I have that brand of coop but of course not sure which style you have. I’ve been considering adding onto the run which came with mine so also interested in this thread. Could you grab a photo from the TSC site maybe?

    Hello from Nashville

    (1) Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens? I’m new to chickens after seriously wanting to raise them for about 7 years. Finally becoming homeowners made it a reality for us. We have 3 week old chicks in the brooder now. (2) How many chickens do you have right now? 6 (3)...

Newbie looking for ideas (pics included)

I like the ideas here so far. I'm not able to put a door on the side of the existing walls, however. I'm worried about ventilation if I build the coop too far inside it though. The bench is 2W x 5L and very sturdy. I didn't know about poultry nails - will look into them. I'm assuming I can get...

Newbie looking for ideas (pics included)

I've seen a couple of posts like this so thought I'd give it a try. I've got an open shed on my property (approx 10x20') that I'd like to use for a coop, and a lot of miscellaneous materials that I hope I can somehow use. I don't need the entire shed, and am thinking to use maybe half or 1/3 of...

    Hello from Nashville

Hi everyone, I need to go ahead and do this hello thing, so here is my introduction. I'm a Nashville, TN resident where the city recently decided it was ok for most of us (unfortunately some council members opted their districts out) to keep chickens. I want to keep chickens mainly for the...

    The Middle Tennessee Thread

Hello everyone, I'm new here and excited about keeping chickens. I've been looking at the options for ordering chicks, and am running into the issue of different hatcheries having the breeds I want, but at different shipping times. I'm afraid to mix chicks of different ages in with each...
