    TN traders!

I'm in East Tennessee near Johnson City. We have an Easter Egger Roo that needs a new home. He is in the back of this group, though he is 18 weeks now. He was about 14 weeks when this photo was taken. He is big and heavy and healthy. We have some buff and white silkies for sale, too. They are...

    Best All Around Breed

I have a pair of game birds - a cock and hen. The hen is a Grey Hatch and she lays every single day like clockwork. She is small and wiry, but she is an egg machine!

OMG- somebody just tried to come into my house

My first thought is it was probably a drunk at the wrong house. I doubt anyone breaking in would stand there and continue to wiggle the handle while a dog was leaping at the door.

    Canning for Dummies

I love the classic book "Putting Food By". It is full of recipes and also explains the science behind canning. I have two hot water bath canners and a large pressure canner. The only things I can in hot water bath are jams jellies, preserves, and tomatoes.

I have a question about Silkies...

My silkies were the least friendly and docile when they were little, but they are getting better. They are not nearly as friendly as the Buff Orpingtons, who hop on my lap or shoulders, but they are coming around. I make it a point to not put them down until they settle down. When they are...

    Chicken Names?

No - it is the drawer from an old refrigerator. It is enameled tin and says "FRUIT" on the front. We think it is kind of funny.

    Chicken Names?

Most of ours are young and I can't yet tell them apart. They are changing so fast! I hope I'll be able to recognize them as they get older. We do have Bob, the buff plymouth rock hopefully pullet named by my 5 year old: And Epstein, our cross beak buff silkie: Then we have our game hen and...

We used part of an old innertube on ours and it works great. The innertube flexes easily and keeps the water out.

So it looks like the Buff Plymouth Rock females have wattles, too. Is it possible it is a pullet?

    Buff Orpington... Yellow Feet?

We bought 5 buff orpington pullets from Ideal. They are sweet, healthy, and huge! They are 6 weeks old now. Well, the other day my youngest son named one, "Bob." Bob is the biggest of the five and as we looked more closely at 'her', we noticed her feet are yellow - not white like the others. We...

I want to hatch in the Classroom - Am I crazy?

I am usually pretty DIY, but knowing nothing about hatching eggs and, well, I'm nervous from start to finish! If someone says, "this is the best option for your price range" then that is probably what I'll do. My price range? About $50... or less.

I want to hatch in the Classroom - Am I crazy?

I want to hatch eggs in the preschool classroom. I have been looking into incubators that will not break our budget and have found tabletop ones like this one . Is this a recipe for heartache? Is there something else that would be better but not pricey?
