Wow! I love their little crests! I think they'd have much more developed combs at 4.5 weeks, so I'm voting sapphire pullets and the one WL cock. I don't know what it is about fermented feed but it looks like an explosion of YUCK happened every time they eat! It's been raining for days so mine...
Sounds promising! That's the exact age of the two I have. 1 Black Star x Speckled Sussex & 1 CL x ISA Brown.
They grow up so fast! ;) I love looking at your pictures!
Hoping this little cutie is a pullet. 4 weeks old & still no huge comb! SHE is CL x ISA Brown, so I think eggs should be pretty olive or at least an interesting green! :)
Hmmm...if I did that cross, I don't think I'd wind up with anything that was totally brown. These are F2 because I bred my black star cock(F1) back to some RIR hens. I'm trying to keep the barred, brown chicks, selectively breed them with each other and then I'll start to see some better...
I posted this on another thread but no help telling me if this 4 week old looks like a pullet! The one in back looks like it has a big comb to me. The chix of the one in front will be pure rhodebar!
I'm pretty sure that, while the auto-sexing trait is there, it isn't always definitive. It's comb makes me think roo but the coloring seems too dark and makes me think pullet. My roo (which is the only one I've seen in person) was much more barred and much lighter at this age. Some have more...
This was "Hadji" as a fully grown rooster! It's funny how they change as they grow. He's the fluffy little chick in my avatar and the youngster I was asking about in this thread. Very pretty bird!
