    I did the UNTHINKABLE! Gave scratch to the chicks! HELP!

    Pine shavings are great. There is no need to worry, your chicks will be fine. Just stop feeding them scratch and only feed them chick starter! The bulge on their chest is nothing to worry about. It is called a crop. When a chicken eats it gets larger. I hope that clears everything up for you.

    The buff orpingtons are one of my favorites as far as temper goes. They are very docile and wonderful egg layers. Good luck.
