    The Olive-Egger thread!

Those are lovely! Where did you get that color chart with the greens? I have a Marans chart and a blues chart but not one for green or olive.

Thanks guys, Any roosters that I hatch go into the stew pot if they are aggressive or not nice to the ladies once the get past their "idiot teenage male" phase. I have a few big older hens that I keep solely for the purpose of educating young roosters as to just who is the boss around the hen...

    The Olive-Egger thread!

Thanks! The cross for the olive speckled was between a Black copper Marans hen and Blue Ameraucana rooster. I am not sure why the Marans hen had the speckles on a lighter background, maybe faulty inkjets, but I like it and her daughter apparently inherited it as a speckled light olive.

I would make that cross if she lays a nice dark egg and see what happens. Nothing to loose except the blood sweat and tears that go along with hatching and raising them. But you never know, you could get great eggs, or they could end up as chicken soup or fried chicken. Many of my...

Thanks guys. The speckled is nowhere as dark as some of the others, but I just love the speckled green eggs. The remind me of green pears. I don't post too often, but I promise to keep the olive eggers thread updated when I set my eggs this spring, to see what hatches, and this fall when I...

    The Olive-Egger thread!

P.S. I had not thought about crossing back to an olive rooster, but when I hatch the olive eggs I should get some Olive roosters. I have a few roosters left from the original crosses that produced the olive egg layers, but I always feel that to use a rooster for breeding, I want to see the...

Here are eggs from the speckled mom and olive daughter: Here are some more of the olive eggs...I guess I prefer the greener eggs over the over the browner ones, maybe that is just a weird personal preference:

    The Olive-Egger thread!

Thanks for the advice. I plan to cross back to my best dark egg Maran roosters. Since I hatched them, I know who came from the darkest eggs, and have also verified that their daughters lay nice dark eggs. I was just wondering about the blue. I was hoping for a dark teal color. I plan on...

    The Olive-Egger thread!

Dear olive egg experts, My f1 generation of olive eggers started to lay last fall. I crossed some of my best Marans roosters, with my best blue egg laying hens. I was pleased with the results as shown here What I am thinking of doing this spring, is crossing my best olive laying hens...

    Ducks that lay colored eggs?

I am really interested in eggs color for both ducks and chickens. I know that there are many factors that can influence this, both genetic and dietary. My chickens lay a rainbow of dark dark brown (Marans) to blues, pinkish, green,(Easter eggers) and now teal to brownish greens from my F1...

    Duck Egg Colors...Your Input Needed

I am really glad that someone started this thread. I found an orange duck egg (for Halloween I'm sure) and I can't figure out who laid it. I have Giant Pekings, Black Cayuga, Blue Swedish, Rouen, and Khaki Campbell girls in a pen. The black egg is of course from a Black Cayuga, but I can't...
