This is good to know. I just wanted to make sure that she wasn't ill or causing damage to her body by not laying. I will look into adding a light into their coop.
Thanks for the info, I was starting to worry that she was sick. She doesn't look sick... and it didn't seem that she had any symptoms of illness. We will keep an eye on her and see what happens.

We have a mixed flock of four 10 wk chicks, One Buff Orpington, one RIR, one Easter Egger, and one Barred Rock. Recently we noticed the Barred and the BO getting a little more red waddles. Could these be cockerels? Can you tell by these photos?
My daughter is 9 and has been researching owning backyard chickens for about 7 months. we are now to the point where we have agreed to get 2-4 chickens this spring. We think we would like 2 Barred Rock and 2 Rhode Island Reds. Is it okay to have a mix of breed?
