Hi everyone! I made this little drawing of my three coturnix quail. I wanted to make it my BYC signature haha. If anyone would message me their pet pictures I'd love to do a few more for fun 😁
Its worth a shot.
Shes probably a little traumatized. I had an issue where my females didn't like one of the males, so he slept on top of their nest box for weeks
Now they are totally fine with each other after I separated the male for a while. He was put in a separate cage where he...
Do they have anywhere to hide/ get out of the male's line of sight? Branches, hidey house etc.? If she feels more comfortable and has somewhere to get away, she might warm up to him with time.
It won't prevent them from hitting their head in a cage if they jump that's for sure. Mine cleared a 1 ft tall wall without even opening her wings.
You could clip one side as a precaution so they don't fly away if they get out, but I'm not sure how you expect to keep predators without an...
This winter was super rainy and cold, and our aviary roof would leak. We lost two out of five quail because of it. :(
So...
After we tore down the old aviary, I designed a new coop/ cage and asked my brother to build it for me.
He did an amazing job!!
I'm so happy that the remaining three will...
Thanks for the reply! We only have them as pets and for eggs and I don't think I'll be getting any more after them, my parents are already planning a shed in place of their coop!:hitThey have been laying for two summers now, so I expect even after winter they will be slowing down.
I didn't hatch...
I have five coturnix quail living outside, on the ground in a coop type situation. I got them last spring so this is there second winter. Last year I didn't have any problems through the winter except for their water freezing. We cover the mesh walls with clear plastic wrap, they have a wooden...
Im sure they will be fine! When they do get cold they will go inside :) ... Mine made it through the winter ( -5-10 at night a few times) out in their aviary with a box full of hay and plastic sheets stapled up on the chicken wire walls to keep out the drafts..
He was bleeding from around his head/ neck but we cant see any wounds.
Good news is he seems to be OK now. Probably bonked his head really hard on a window as he was unresponsive for a good few hours. He is eating, drinking and seems very alert. We will try releasing him in an hour or so. As...
Hello I am unsure where to post this but my parents just found a bird (Dark-eyed Junco) on the road as they were on a walk. It is injured and was probably attacked by a cat or hit by a car ( though I don't know how such a little bird could survive that)
Due to the current coronavirus situation...
