HI I saw this thread and wanted to comment. My family might be relocated to Anchorage area and I would like to know how people raise chickens up there. Are there certain areas where you can have them? Or are most areas deed restricted so you can't? And what do you do in the winter for them...
when I had my duck indoors she slept in a large plastic tote with pellet bedding. had a screen top made for it and she would just settle down and go right to sleep. Honestly a pet duck is easier than a dog or a cat in a lot of ways.
Good Morning. I am looking into getting a few Muscovy for a backyard flock. But I found a few articles saying Muscovy are banned in Houston. Does anyone live in this area and can enlighten me on what the rule is for keeping them? I would hate to get some and then be "caught" with them and...
I want to thank you for this comment. I have a Cayuga female who is 4 months old now. She has recently (like the last 3 or 4 weeks ) started with a random loud quack. Sounds like she is LOL. Its reassuring that she might settle back into her quite self again.
She is officially quacking and has all her tail feathers and no curl. So I'm pretty sure she is in fact a she duck. Will just play it by ear. If I feel she needs another duck around I'll get her one. But so far she has been more than happy with the kids and myself. She doesn't panic when...
oh and about the sleeping. She sleeps in the same brooder pen she had as a baby. I just pack it with some nice hay and she sleeps in the laundry room with the dogs. Not sure how much longer she will fit in that box, but its works so far. I find now she is telling me when its bed time. After...
I'll share my feeding station for my little Plucky. She (being a duck) is quite a messy eater and drinker. So I have this feeding station for her that keeps all the mess contained and is easy to clean up.
I've got a single duckling. She did have some separation anxiety when she was...
Thank you for all that started and contributed to this post. I have a Cayuga duck that was brought home as an egg the kids found at the park. Well that egg hatched and I now have an 8 week old duckling that lives in the house because she couldn't bare to be separated from the family. She is a...
That's great! Good luck with the hatch. I just heard that my batch of silvers will be shipping out soon. And so far all the JMF pharaoh and the new batch of Golden layers from JMF are all growing fast.
Do you know how true to color any of them breed? I have a set of Italian Speckled eggs hatching any day now and would like an idea of how to pair them up. I was planning on putting a few Tibetans and Rosetta in with a male Italian just to see what I get.
Wow thank you for sharing the picture. He was telling me about the blue eggs and that he is hoping that everyone that buys from him will get at least one bird that lays these. But WOW. How do you breed for egg color?
The reds are Scarlet and Red Range. There are others out there like Rosetta, and Roux Dilute that I'm sure would make some interesting crosses.
If I found the correct information you get Roux dilute by crossing a red variety with Italian speckled. But really the genetics on these birds has...
am
I have heard that blue quail do produce a bluish color quail egg. But have not seen one yet myself. If I get some pictures I'll definitely share them with you
So far I have the American pharaoh and JMF Jumbo Pharaoh. I HIGHLY recommend going for the jumbo. They are only 2 weeks old...
