Hello I'm hoping someone could help us. My son just started 4H and is doing a poultry project. We we told it is easier to do showmanship with a bantam. My son would love to get a bantam wyandotte but it seems they are impossible to find. I'd prefer a clean legged bird. We live in AZ so if there...
Hi,
This lovely little lady was the sole survivor of my attempt at hatching eggs. I was trying to remember what she was supposed to be and thought she was an Isbar but the coloring doesn't match (feet and eyes are wrong). So next option was a Swedish Flower but she seems very white with not...
Hello,
So this is my first time hatching chicks from eggs. I have a still air incubator that I kept between 100-102 degrees and about 50% humidity. At day 18 I quit turning the eggs and raised the humidity to 70-80%. I had a chick hatch on Tuesday which was day 22 and one pip. The one that...
Hi,
I live in the Phoenix area and I would like to have my 4 drakes processed. Is there someone in the area that would do it for us for a reasonable rate or for one of the birds? I wouldn't mind learning myself but would rather watch someone do it the first time or have someone do it for me...
Thanks for the interesting link. A friend found this for me http://www.aaaai.org/ask-the-expert/cross-reactivity-hen-duck-egg.aspx It wasn't exactly what I was looking for but oh well. I did find a lot of various anecdotal information out there with varied results (some could have one but...
Hi everyone,
My son recently tested positive for egg white allergy. We eat a mixture of duck eggs (from the backyard) and chicken eggs (from the store). I read somewhere that duck eggs have a different protein profile then chicken eggs but for the life of me cannot find that article now. Can...
I'm babysitting a dog and just found out he has tapeworm. The vet said she didn't think it could be transmitted to the ducks. However when I mow the grass I usually put the clippings in the duck pen (we live in town on a little lot). Can I just put some DE in with their food to be on the safe...
Yes I think so. However black plumage is dominate and since I fished them out of a pond I can never be 100% sure. I did end up with a drake and hen and she lays one cream colored egg a day. :-)
Hi all,
My ducklings are doing well and I really want them to go outside. It has been well over 90 here (AZ) and I'm sure they would do fine with shade outside. I was wondering if I could use a plastic dog crate (my collies fit in it so it is really big) as a temp. home for them until hubby...
Here is a picture I took of them yesterday. They are dark brown/black with black beak and black legs and feet. I was thinking cayuga as I did see a cayuga drake swimming around but no duck. It is possible they were hatched there at the lake but the duck was killed by a cat or dog in the...
Good question, I don't actually know. I found them at a local pond and believe they may have been late Easter ducklings that someone dumped. One of the ducklings had an egg tooth the other didn't. So I'm guessing not more then a week old. Right now they are getting chick mash (20% protein)...
Hi all,
I live in AZ and was wondering if anyone else out there lives in AZ with ducks. What do you have for a coop what kind of feed have you found out here that is good and fresh and what about water?
Thanks
Hi all,
We live in the Phoenix Arizona area and were considering getting some chickens or ducks after we moved. However at the park yesterday we found two abandoned ducklings (look like cayuga) that someone probably bought for Easter then dumped at the local pond (see my avatar picture)...
