    Showing Chickens

My youngest (13) daughter just told me she wants to show one or two of our chickens in 4-H. Just wondering what are the easiest and best breeds for someone just starting? Where or who do we get them from?

    should I buy vaccinated chicks

I'm sure I over looked the answer to this question somewhere, but I'm new. Should I buy my chicks vaccinated from the hatchery? I live on a small farm with wild turkeys that roam my yard and some ring necked pheasants. These will be my first chicks and I would like to do the right thing. Not...

Can chickens being chased cause them not to lay

I've got two very active 2 yr old grandsons. :D Can them chasing the chickens around the yard (once in awhile) cause my chickens not to lay? I can understand them not if it was an everyday thing.

Breeds that can stand climate swings in South Dakota

Are they very docile? I've got 4 young grandchildren and they are going to want to pet them. I realize some will be tamer others, just like anything else. Plus I'm going to want to also and maybe show one or two?

Breeds that can stand climate swings in South Dakota

I've been away from Chickens for awhile. I used to help my Grandma with hers. Now I'm trying to start a flock to share with my family, but with the climate swings we have here in SD. It can be well below freezing in the winter months to well above 100 in the summer. Does anyone have suggestions...
