Checking-In On Peeps - Post Here To Say Hello!

Doing well and very busy. Have a beautiful young Wyandotte rooster and a hen I hatched myself. The Barnevelders are gone. They got very old. I kept them as pets for a long while even though they were not laying. A hawk got most of them though before I could build a new coop and protect them...

Speckledhen's Ten Commandments of Good Flock Management

Thank you for that list speckledhen. Have a great tip for catching a chicken. A $15 fish net with an extendable aluminum handle and nylon net. Like this one. These are great because the chicken doesn't get tangled or caught in the netting. Haven't had to extend the handle yet either.

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

Art is so proud of her chicks. So far she has hatched three. One splash and two blue Barnevelders. You can see a tiny wing flapping to get under her feathers on her right side.

I think she's OK. Just very dedicated to hatching those eggs. She must be drinking and eating a little because she's been broody for about a week now and she's still alive.

I don't think she's doing this. The water and food is not touched and no poop in the kennel. She's alive and spaced out but I don't think she has even moved.

Barnevelder breeders lets work together and improve the breed

My Barnevelder blue double laced hen, named Art, decided to go broody 4 days ago. She is two years old. Yesterday I put her in her own apartment with the eggs and water and food available. She is SO spaced out in meditation mode. Do they just not drink or eat while broody?

    Muddy run! Help please!

After getting this muddy situation straightened out, my chickens need a serious bath.

    Muddy run! Help please!

After awhile of using this method, do you eventually deep clean the coop, move the coop (it's a large permanent coop so would be difficult) or just keep the composting up, adding materials?

My avatar has a photo of a splash chick (hen). Her butt anyway.

    JUNE HAL

Well. No more hatched from my batch. Mr.Active is doing great. There was a local lady selling chicks, so I got three from her so Active isn't alone. Got two speckled sussex and one white crested black Polish. The flock is shaping up nicely. The three new chicks are normal (lol) and sleep all the...

    JUNE HAL

Well. The hatch isn't going so well. The early chick just doesn't sleep. Weird chick! The little thing was using the other eggs as billiard balls. Running around and around the incubator, looking me right in the eye when he could see me and screaming at me then hopping up and down and trying to...

Thanks for the reply about the eggs getting knocked around being ok. I'll keep the lid closed and wait out a few more days.
