I am far from a pro on call ducks, my first batch is still hatching. We had 12 in the incubator and 12 under my call hen, all but 1 of hers were fully developed and had beaks in the air cell on Monday. I read that they were difficult to hatch so I popped a hole in each air cell and put 4 back...
We now have 6 hatched, all have needed some assistance 4 have needed complete hands on assistance. Here are the first 3, the others are drying as they are about 20 minutes old lol.
One looks like it might have splayed leg, it was upside down in the egg. Does this look like splayed leg?
He is absolutely not sitting on my lap under a warning towel . I had to do it he asked so nicely I just know that's what those peeps meant Don't worry I'm keeping him covered up and warm until he's fully dried he was just too cute not to hold
He just rolled away from it (yuck!) and it seems to not be attached anymore. Then he rolled over right on top of it and is sleeping on it. He/she seems ok, just resting and peeping every now and then at the other duck bills that are poked out of their eggs lol. He/she doesn't seem to be in any...
I have 3 with a space in the membrane large enough that their bills are showing and I can see lots of feathers. I peeled back the shell and moistened the membrane with Vaseline. They are opening and shutting their bills as if they are trying to say something and if I talk to them they give me...
Thank you so much I will do exactly what you said. I have Vaseline so I will finish removing the shell over the air cell and moisten the membrane every 3 hours. I will also remove the paper towel. Thank you so much. I woke up to another one with her bill completely in the air cell, it looks like...
I just found this thread, thank goodness! I have a call duck who is on day 26 (tomorrow is day 27) and whose little bill is thru the air sack and peeping at me. He has 3 siblings very close behind him. After he pipped and was actively peeping I peeled away a small portion of the shell covering...
My sweet little call duck has done so well. We put 12 eggs under her 26 days ago, we put 12 in the incubator the same day. The incubator has 6 eggs doing well and looking like day 26 ducklings. Luna had 11 out of 12 that look like day 28 eggs. I have a feeling there is another one in the nest...
That is awesome! This would've been a great way to hatch call ducks, I have heard that they can be very difficult to hatch. I have some in the incubator now and I'm so worried they won't make it, this would be a great way to hatch them
that's what I was afraid of. I have seen no change in it lol day, I will probably toss it in the morning. Thank you. I will be keeping a close eye on the others now
I am far from a pro, I'm actually seeking help on another thread, but didn't want yours to get lost. I would assume that the stinker has passed away, I don't think they are supposed to smell when hatching. I'm not sure about the other one. I hope someone will be able to help more.
What did it look like when you started helping it out? I'm on day 25 with Calls as well and when I went to candle them for lockdown one had popped its top. I can see feathers, the yolk looks thick and in some spots drying out. I don't really see any movement. I tried to open the membrane a...
