None of my buttons have ever been committed enough to stay broody they sit for a day and then give up and they are all paired off and living alone. I have given up the idea of hatching them naturally, strange really as they mate constantly but never stay.
Thanks. I will need to read this several dozen times for me to get a solid understanding. I have read it multiple times now and things are somewhat clearer. Thanks for link its a good post in every detail imaginable.
@Ridgerunner I have only just started to keep chickens, before this was just quail, duck and parrots and this is fascinating. I especially like this forum as you leave having generally learned something. I relayed this information to my parents who are equally interested. :love
Wow this is interesting. Also thanks for the detailed reply. I came across this YT video, thats why I thought I would ask the experts on here to see if this had basis. Not sure if links are allowed but this is the video in question, let me know what you think about this.
They just sounded happy but I was stressed with them not eating. Seems like the problem was solved me not feeding them chick crumb I had ground down to dust, they seem to like it left course. They are both eating like horses now so I am happy. I will post some progress pictures in the next few days.
Oh since i put the not so finely ground food in they rushed out and started eating. Well that is a lesson learned thanks @Ridgerunner and everyone else what a lovely friendly and helpful community.
They are active coming in and out from under the heat plate plate chirping and generally doing chicken things. I just have a milk bottle lid with some pebbles in to reduce risk of drowning. I added some none crunched crumb in now also. They seem to be growing as their wings are growing in...
Sorry for the slow reply had to take my daughter to school. I have chick starter crumb blended up into small pieces almost dust the same as I do for my buttons. I have dipped their beaks in water but nothing as yet. The heat plate is as low as I can get it so they can get underneath. I don't...
Hi all, I am new to hatching Serama chickens but my chicks are going into day 3 now and have not touched a drop of food or water. They are chirping constantly when not under the electric hen and I am not sure what to do. I have had this with my quails but they always start eating after a couple...
Yes fire was the number one reason for me getting a heat plate. Also the heat lamps here was costing me about £15 a week to run just a 60watt bulb 24/7, the price of electricity in the UK is nothing short of extortion.
