Green tinge on skin after plucking

I was thinking that's what it may be, but I just wanted some other opinions. I haven't seen it before and I've processed a hundred or so birds. What are your thoughts on lacerations on the skin but don't seem to have gone through into the meat? There doesn't seem to have been any infections.

Green tinge on skin after plucking

Hey ya-all. I was processing a bunch of Cornish Crosses the other day and one of the birds had a greenish tinge to the skin around the joint on one wing. It was most prominent at the joint and faded as it moved away. I also saw a very light greenish tinge on the same side on the lower leg. Can...

Can a dog and chickens safely coexist in a small backyard?

Our dogs were trained as puppies to ignore the chickens. They get along fine even though one is a hound with a huge prey drive. BUT we trained her as a puppy. A 2yr old Bengal is a full grown hound and unless he was trained as a puppy, I do not think you will be able to break him/her of that...

Introducing incubated chicks to their mother

OK. Thanks for the reply. That's what I was afraid of. Alas, will have to do what needs to be done for a safe transition.

Introducing incubated chicks to their mother

Hello everyone, We have in the past allowed our Royal Palm turkey hen and tom to hatch and raise their own clutch of poults. But we have found in the past, the second clutch of eggs in the same year usually get ignored by the hen, especially during hot summer days and the hatch rate is...

    Breeding offspring

Great article. Thank you. I feel a little more secure (?) in in inbreeding and linebreeding.

    Breeding offspring

Thank you. Maybe I'll try it for this one hen and see what happens. It may be difficult though, the eggs from the mother will probably be mixed with her's.

    Breeding offspring

Is it safe or should I say wise to breed the father to a daughter? I am looking for someone to trade with on a another tread, but thought I may consider this if it is safe and in general a common practice. I do not want any oddities or bad personalities from my birds. The mating pair I do...

    First time hatching turkeys!

I let my hen hatch her own. The first time my hen laid 12 eggs. One broke but the balance of them (11 eggs) all hatched by her. No incubator. It was quite amazing. She was a first time mother with no mother training her on what to do. It was all instinct. Her second clutch was not as...

    Turkeys and Roos

We have chickens and turkeys, but they are separated. There is blackhead present in our area and have had several die from it. The turkeys that had survived are now our mating pair and she has laid two clutches of eggs. Some of those that hatched also died from blackhead. The protozoa that...

    Royal Palm Hen Trade

Hi, I have a approximately 8 month old Royal Palm Turkey hen that I would like to trade for another young Royal Palm Hen. She was hatched from my mating pair early summer last year. She should be ready to start laying eggs this spring, but I will not have her mate with her father. I...
