Brooder box or broody hen? Where should my chicks go

We have large fowl Cochins, a few Easter eggers and a couple marans. They’re all very sweet, my 4 yr old daughter just loves them. I’ve only had the Cochins go broody. my first two broody failures were due to possums making their way into the coop, we’ve since built a completely different coop...

Brooder box or broody hen? Where should my chicks go

The other hens are a bit problematic, there are 3 other nesting boxes available but that doesn’t always matter when they’re determined.

Brooder box or broody hen? Where should my chicks go

I haven’t had any hen in the 6 years we’ve had chickens successfully hatch their clutch. But I’ve also only had 4 broody hens in that time. I usually incubate and raise up chicks separately, it just so happened to be close to the same timing this go round which made me wonder which option would...

I have 2 hens who have been sitting on eggs since May 30, June 2 I also started some eggs in an incubator. The hens should have eggs hatching now but they aren’t yet. When my incubated eggs hatch can the chicks go out with the broody hens to break their brooding? Or should I just raise them in a...

Little Giant 9200 Still Air Incubator - humidity

That stinks. But your eggs may be just fine. My last hatch, we lost power for 6 hours and I have 30 chicks now. A lot of it depends on when during development and how cold. I think just down to 92 you're going to be ok for just a little while. And remember the hens don't sit on the eggs 24/7. So...

beak injury, what can I do?

Thank you both. He isn't bleeding it's just really raw. I've got antibiotic ointment i can put on it. My biggest concern is eating and drinking. He is not a candidate for tube feeding while he heals, as he really despises being handled.

beak injury, what can I do?

Today I got home from work to find my rooster's beak damaged.he is 1 1/2 yrs old free range. It's the upper beak. He tried picking up scratch grains to no avail. Any ideas on how I can help him. He is a very good rooster our other roo is way to submissive to protect my free range hens.

Does anyone in the fort dodge/webster city area have LF Cochins or Polish fertile eggs they'd like to sell? I'd like to avoid mail, the last eggs I ordered got really scrambled. I also drive to sioux city from ft dodge once a week and could pick up eggs somewhere along hwy 20.
