Hi! Since signing up for Backyard Chickens, I had a traumatic predator event... I live in the foothills outside of Yosemite National Park, so I think you can guess what... and didn't have the heart to post anything. For years.
But right now, I have a new, healthy flock, and an electric fence...
I reached out to my neighbor, who has a small flock of four hens (EEs and RIRs) and a rooster. She is willing to take Scarlett, and I know she'll be in a good home--right down the hill. I should be able to visit her. Thank you everyone for commenting. <3
I am willing to try keeping her separate to reset her! I wouldn't say she's otherwise aggressive, but hormonal, hmm....could be.
Phoebe's the only black one in the flock but I do have a pretty dark Barnevelder (she'd never allow that behavior, she's high on the pecking order) - the others are...
Hello,
I'm hoping someone has been through a similar situation! I don't want to rehome this hen; she's a sweet bird, except for...
I have a 15-month old Rhode Island Red, Scarlett, who's mid-tier on the pecking order. Out of eight birds total in my 9' x 23' run (adjoining 8' x 8' coop), she...

Yay team Corey/i!
Petra (the grey) does get the most admiration of the bunch from everyone who sees them :) Both are great lap-chickens. I hope you get your own grey soon!
That is exactly what I want! The Speckled Sussex sounds like a dream :)
I have heard that Wyandottes can be a bit "high on the pecking order" -- do yours get along with the other girls?
Thank you for the warm welcome!
I bought them at our local feed store! As for pictures of my maybe-Ameraucanas, here are a few:
Theo is the white one, Petra is the grey one. I think Petra is more likely a real Ameraucana, since her color conforms to the "Blue" standard -- but I'm a total newb at this.
Are you new to chickens / when did you first get chickens?
I had a pet Black Australorp at age... 10? 11? My dad had chickens growing up; he wanted us to experience the joy of small, feathery dinosaurs. "Bonkers" had a lot of personality, so when I moved to a more rural area as an adult, you can...
