Lost a Hen Tonight, Worried about disease.

I appreciate it. I am closely watching them. We have wasps all over the place, and live right next to a creek bed(snakes). What is a good medicine/anti-biotic to put the flock on? I want to get them on something just for preventative measures.

Lost a Hen Tonight, Worried about disease.

I lost a beloved hen in my flock tonight, Daisy. I was away from the house and come home to find my family trying to help her. Appearently, they found her lying on her side, barely responsive next to our coop entrance. The other chickens in our flock were all surrounded around her as if they...

    The EE braggers thread!!!

Here's a picture of one of our so-called little hens all grown up! Turned out to be a ROO and as with all of our birds they are loved no matter what the sex so we made room to have two ROOs which has actually worked out pretty good (we have 13 hens). Our "Super ROO (Big Coz)" plays #2 to this...

    DIY ac for the coop.

Thanks, my coop is not insulated. It does not take up a lot of energy, it works well in the summer. I haven't tested the heating part yet(Not cold enough). If you do use a window unit, make sure it's in the window snug, so it does not vibrate.

What do you wish you had known before you got your chickens

I'm not an experienced flock owner by any means, but I have absorbed a good amount of knowledge and advice raising backyard chickens. When you purchase chicks, buy from either a breeder, or a recommended hatchery(I recommend Meyers). As far as the coop goes, don't rush it. Unless you can't, I...

My Eleanor Sulphur Crested Cockatoo Molly

That's funny that she talks to the chickens. Molly is jealous of every other bird she sees, she barks(because of our dog)at the chickens. The only time she really interacted closely with other parrots is when she was born at the breeders house(we got her when she was 4 months old). -Cosmo

My Eleanor Sulphur Crested Cockatoo Molly

Wow! Neat! I thought I was bad letting my parrot eat like a person, I guess not . I would love to hear more about Kevin, I LOVE everything about birds, especially larger parrots. I need to take some new pictures of her soon so I can post them on here. Also, if you wouldn't mind, tell me...

    SAD, hello and goodbye?

Smongerer, raccoons are animals of oppurtunity, I'm sure that every animal within a mile knows they are there. Dogs would not rip a coop apart for the most part. Raccoons will come out in the day, spend hours tearing at it until they get what they want. -Cosmo
