Is there an effective way to deal with rats? My husband told me we had a couple. Well last night I went out to place some fertilized eggs under my broody and there were more than a couple! I've had some mysterious chicken deaths as well and I'm wondering if the rats weren't a factor!
I just ordered my first set of hatching eggs because I have a hen who is broody. The earliest I could get the eggs was May 17th-19th. My question is will she still be broody by then? And is there a way to keep her broody?
I have an Orpington who has wanted to be a Mom forever so I decided this year we will finally give her her wish. I'm trying to study up on how to hatch with a broody Momma but a lot of what I'm finding is hatching with an incubator. Can someone point me in the right direction for hatching with a...
Thanks everyone! I was thinking Barnevelder as well. So does anyone know much about this breed because I know nothing about them except that they're rare. Are they good layers? Good with kids? Skiddish? Thanks!
I did know that the one with pale legs was a Speckled Sussex even though she was sold to me as a Buff Brahma This lady did all sorts of lying. Oh well. So here's a better shot of one of the ones in question, the 2 I have are pretty identical:
The black hens in the pictures were sold to me as Speckled Sussex but I don't think they are. I'm wondering if they're Barnevelders or maybe something else? Thanks so much!
So the lady that sold me this little girl said she was a Buff Brahma (it was nighttime I didn't get a good look), well I know THAT'S not true, lol So what is she? She has orange-ish legs so I don't think Easter Egger. What are your thoughts?
I have a mystery chick that looks a lot like your 3rd and 4th chick. Do you happen to have any pictures of them growing up so I could compare?? Thanks so much!
Well I would ignore them but we have a garden and I also have 2 young boys - 5 & 3 who like to run around the yard but the mole tunnels make that hard to do without tripping. I have heard of the milky spore but it doesn't get rid of the moles just the grubs? I'm guessing the moles will just go...
Wonderful! Yes we do use pine shavings! I asked around elsewhere and they are saying prolapsed vent which they also said was rare in a chick. I applied preparation H to the bottom and have given the chick acidophilus mixed into some scrambled egg and plain greek yogurt. I will go ahead and give...
So one of my chicks is having a difficult time going to the bathroom but I really don't think it's pasty butt. I cleaned her butt off and she just keeps chirping loudly whenever she tries going to the bathroom. I also don't think she's constipated because the poop isn't stiff or hard. The vent...
We've got moles and unfortunately they don't seem too frightened by our chickens so how can I get rid of them without putting something out that could potentially harm the chickens? TIA!
