All My Hens Are Using the Same Nesting Box!

I've got eight hens and three nestboxes, and it seems like whoever lays first in the morning the others follow the lead..All the days eggs are always in the same one box;very rarely one off in the next box..Love to catch them sharing a box too, so funny to see two hens squeezed in there ! When...

    Zombie-looking chickens...

Quote: Well...I gave it a few months of a balanced diet, lots of TLC, and applications of Hot-Pick..Got a little better, and a local vets office that works with farm animals thinks it's more behavioral that nutritional.. Plenty of square footage for these hens, I guess they're just bored...

    Zombie-looking chickens...

I'm sure this has been covered here many times, but here goes again !! I've got 8 hens just over a year old.All healthy, almost every day an egg from each ( even all thru the winter ! ) Lively birds, love running around the yard, and they're a lot of fun.. The problem ? They've been losing...

Molting in the winter...is this normal?

I've got two of my eight hens going thru a molt right now too.. Odd, you'd think they'd feather themselves out during cold weather, not lose their built-in insulation..

The timing of a coop heat-lamp

Been reading all about heatlamps for the winter season, but I've got a question I haven't found the answer to yet.. I've got 8 hens ( 4 Comets, 2 Leghorns and 2 Black sex-links) in a 6x6x6 draft-free coop..If the temp really drops here in Connecticut and I use a lamp just to take the chill off...

question about the percentage of people in U.S. who own chickens

Hard to put a number on those of us non-farmers who have backyard chickens..I'm sure quite a few ( such as myself ) tend to fly under the radar because of zoning and/or land-use issues.. Wish I had a better answer for you, and welcome to the group !!

Cooking eggs in the coffeepot !

Read this on another forum, and it really threw me for a loop ! old trick I've been doing for years/decades place a raw, in the shell egg, in the grounds basket of your drip coffee maker...as the hot water streams over your egg and thru your grounds to make the coffee, it cooks. when coffee...

    Will they share?

Quote: I'm exactly the same as you, 8 hens and 3 boxes. Yes, they will share the same box, I've had two trying to get into the same box and/or a lot of squawking if one doesn't hurry up ! Just the other day, I had all 8 eggs in one box !!
